Katy Perry, Russell Brand Arrive In India For Wedding

russell brand katy perry

Since getting engaged last New Year’s Eve, Katy Perry and Russell Brand have kept fans eager for details about their wedding plans. Now, it seems the big day is upon them. The couple is widely expected to marry this weekend in India and photos of the pair arriving in the country have already hit the Internet.

Perry even hinted at plans under way, asking for privacy on her Twitter: “I have something to say… TWIT BREAK: Greatest gift u can give us is respect & [love] during this private X. No use wasting ur X w/ STOLEN or FALSE info. Thnk u for this.”

Not only has the couple touched down in Jaipur, where Brand has been seen walking in photos, along with Perry who opted to cover her face with a jacket, but a number of their family members have also started to arrive in the Indian city. Among the relatives that have been spotted are Perry’s brother David Hudson; her sister Angela Perry; her father, David Hudson, and Brand’s mother, Barbara Brand. (Katy Perry was born Katy Hudson.)

A decoy couple was also spotted at the airport, along with Perry’s stylist Logan Horne, Brand’s manager (and reported best man) Nik Linnen and Perry’s pal Markus Molinari.

Just last week, Brand sat down with MTV’s “The Seven,” where he joked that the wedding would take place in the “distant past” — in Victorian London — before noting that the big day “will be quite soon.” And while the two had yet to officially say their “I do’s,” Brand insisted, “Marriage takes place in the heart. So in that sense, we are already married.”

Taylor Swift Opens Up About Marriage And Kids

taylor swift

Taylor Swift is pretty much an open book on her new album, Speak Now, which drops Monday. And in a new Us Weekly bookazine dedicated to the singer, which hits shelves Friday, she opens up about some major milestones she’s looking forward to down the line.

When asked if she feels pressure to get married, Swift said, “Not really. Not as far as anything in the immediate or general future. I’m not opposed to it. I just don’t think about it! [Laughs.] I don’t focus on pining away for love, because I’m focused on being happy with what’s happening right now.”

Having said that, Swift said she’s happy for pals such as Katy Perry, Kellie Pickler and Carrie Underwood, who have recently married or will be getting married soon. “There’s definitely wedding fever right now!” she said. “I think it’s wonderful if you know you’ve found the one.”

As for kids, Swift admits that she doesn’t want them until she has the time to raise them. “Oh, well, kids, yes! Later in life, definitely. I’d love to get to a place where I could do what my mom did,” she said. “But let’s say I’m 30 and still touring: I wouldn’t want to have a family, because I couldn’t balance it. But I really have no idea about the future. It’s so unexpected. Trust me!”

Right now, Swift is just concentrating on her new house and new album, which focuses a lot on her love life. “I just write from my perspective about how it ended up and what I felt about it. And I think it’s because, for me, I need everything to feel justified: everything I do, every person I meet,” she explained. “And every person I’ve fallen for, they’ve all been a song. Songs I’m proud of. That kind of justifies them being in my life.”

Rihanna Now Managed By Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

rihanna

Just weeks before her fifth LP, Loud, hits shelves, Rihanna is switching up her team.

The singer announced Wednesday (October 20) that she will now be managed by mentor and former Def Jam exec Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company. The chart-ruling singer spilled the beans to The Associated Press, saying in a statement she’s “so excited to take this next step in my career.” The “Only Girl in the World” singer joins songstress Melanie Fiona, spitter Wale and DJ/producer Mark Ronson as other faces handled by the management arm of Hov’s multi-pronged firm.

Aligning herself with the super-mogul and Forbes cover star is probably a smart move — not only for her music, but for her forays into the business world as well. Rihanna also told the AP that she is creating a company called Rihanna Entertainment that will “merge all of her businesses, including music, film, fragrance, fashion and book ventures.”

Jay-Z and Rihanna’s professional history goes back half a decade to the hip-hop mogul’s brief tenure as president of Def Jam. The MC signed the then-17-year-old songbird to the storied rap imprint only hours after seeing her audition.

“We signed her that night — 3 in the morning was when that contract got signed,” Jay told MTV News in 2005 of meeting the budding singer. “We wouldn’t let her leave the office. From meeting her at 4 [p.m.] in the office till 3 in the morning, I was absolutely certain. That doesn’t happen too often.”

Although Rihanna’s Barbados-bred swagger impressed the rap impresario, she said at the time that she was nervous to meet the hip-top titan and her soon-to-be-boss. However, the Brooklyn legend quickly made her feel at ease.

“When we first got there, I was shaking. I had never met a celebrity, and to have to audition for one and meet him at the same time … I was hysterical,” Rihanna said. “But the minute I went in the office, it was totally different. He was so welcoming; the environment was so warm and friendly. The jitters just went away immediately.”

‘Glee’ Stars’ Racy GQ Photos Stir Up Controversy

glee

“Glee” is one of the hottest shows on TV right now, but the cast’s steamy spread for GQ magazine has turned up the heat a bit too much, according to critics.

Media watchdog group the Parents Television Council released a statement Wednesday (October 20) blasting the magazine’s racy spread with November cover stars and Gleeks Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith and Lea Michele.

“It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on ‘Glee’ in this way. It borders on pedophilia. Sadly, this is just the latest example of the overt sexualization of young girls in entertainment,” PTC President Tim Winter said.

The McKinley High ladies definitely vamp it up for the camera. On the cover, Monteith is flanked by both “Glee” divas — including a pants-less Michele and a scantily clad Agron — with his hands squarely on their bottoms. In other shots, Michele can be seen posing in tiny underwear and thigh-high socks, sucking on a lollipop by a set of lockers, and in another scene, perched on a bench with her legs spread-eagle. Agron dons a thigh-grazing skirt and belly-baring T-shirt as she thrusts pom-poms in the air in one picture. In another photo, the girls hit the library in skimpy outfits and throw books around the room.

The PTC also charged that the racy photos disproportionately focus on the ladies’ sexuality while Monteith spends a lot of the shoot fully covered up in jock-chic looks.

“With a demonstrated market of eager fans for an entertaining, musical-themed program like ‘Glee,’ we wonder why the show’s creators feel the need for such graphic sexualization of women,” Winter continued. “Interestingly, the photos of the male character showed him wearing a shirt, tie and vest.”

GQ responded that although Monteith, Michele and Agron play teens on TV, in reality, they are adults who have the ability to get raunchy for the lens if they so choose.

“The Parents Television Council must not be watching much TV these days and should learn to divide reality from fantasy,” Jim Nelson, editor in chief of GQ, said in a statement. “As often happens in Hollywood, these ‘kids’ are in their twenties. Cory Monteith’s almost 30! I think they’re old enough to do what they want.”

A rep for Fox declined to comment when MTV News reached out Wednesday.

This is not the first time the show has been criticized by the group. The council recently blasted the “Glee” Britney Spears tribute episode for showing the castmembers in “skimpy outfits” and “sultry grinds” and for its portrayal of the once-troubled Spears as a role model.

Kris Allen Recalls Naked Sleepwalking Adventure

kris allen

“American Idol” champ Kris Allen has had his fair share of embarrassing moments on the road. Leaving the stage mid-song because nature’s calling? Check. Having sneaky paparazzi snap shirtless pics of him on his day off? Been there, done that.

As the “Live Like We’re Dying” singer embarks on a new fall tour opening for Lifehouse, Allen stopped by MTV News to share his most blush-worthy tour tale yet. He’s been keeping this one a secret since August.

We’ll let him take it from here …

“It was [my manager] Lizzie’s birthday. We went out to this Italian restaurant, and we all had a good time. I get back to the hotel, and I’m pretty sleepy. It’s pretty early, maybe 11, 11:30. At about 2 in the morning … I wake up outside my bedroom, for some reason. I don’t know if I’m sleepwalking or what’s going on. The door closes, and I wake up and I go, ‘What the heck? I’m locked out of my room!’ The bad thing was I went to bed that night in the buff. So I am locked out of my room, butt-naked, in Hershey [Pennsylvania].

“At that point you’re so defeated. It’s not like I’m running down the halls trying to find something. I’m just walking around [with my hand covering my junk, thinking], ‘If somebody sees me, they see me.’

“So [then I think] somebody’s had some room service, so maybe I can find a napkin or something and cover me up and go down to the lobby. There’s nothing, obviously. I don’t want to go down the elevator. That would be stupid, right? And so I go down the stairs, and I go through every floor… I even tried to find the gym, the gym is locked… So I [finally] find this phone and I call the front desk and I go, ‘Hey, man. This is a little weird, but I’m locked out of my room. Can you please come up here?’

“So I’m waiting for the guy to come. I’m kind of bent over a little bit [peeking around a corner looking towards the elevator]. For some reason, the guy comes up from behind me and so he sees everything. From behind, which is not cool.

“He goes, ‘Hey, man.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, gosh. Hey, dude. How’s it going? Can you please unlock the door?’ And he, like, does it really fast and then runs.”

But wait — the story doesn’t end there.

“The next night, my key doesn’t work for some reason so I have to go back down [to the front desk], and it’s the same guy. And he goes, ‘Nice night last night, eh?’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, dude, I’m sorry.’ I’m deeply sorry that he had to see that.

“Man parts are not meant to be seen out in the open,” Allen concluded. Kris Allen — who insisted that he was not under the influence of any substances the night of his naked stroll — is on the road with Lifehouse through November supporting his new single “Alright With Me.” You can find his tour itinerary on his website. Or you could look out your window to see if there are any 5-foot-7 pop stars sleep-streaking down your street.

Jennifer Lopez ‘Loves’ Her ‘American Idol’ Gig

jennifer lopez

Jennifer Lopez seems to be fitting in nicely with her new co-workers at “American Idol.” On Tuesday (October 19), she stopped by CBS’ “The Talk” and opened up about sitting alongside Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler.

“[Critiquing the bad singers is] the easy part… I’m loving it,” she said. “It’s so much fun. When it goes live I’ll be home for, like, five months. It’s been great.”

The happiness didn’t stop there. “I love everybody,” she said. “It’s such a machine. It runs like clockwork. I love [executive producer] Nigel [Lythgoe]. I love Ryan [Seacrest]. I love Steven [Tyler]. I love Randy [Jackson]. Everything’s great!”

Well… not everything. There is one part of her job where the fun takes a backseat. “It’s easy when they’re really good and it’s easy when they’re really bad,” she said. “It’s when they’re in the middle.”

Lopez explained that contestants get trapped in “the middle” when they have a look but no sound, or a sound but no look. “It’s a really hard process. It just depends how you are in the audition,” she said. “I think it is a good depiction of how the business is. I think it’s just fast-forward.”

During an “Idol” stop in New Jersey last month, Lopez expressed a similar sentiment. “I don’t want to let anybody really great [not make it through] because they’re nervous, and not get to see what they could have did,” Lopez said at the time. “They’re going to come in here and be a little bit nervous in the beginning, and then you realize, ‘Wow, that person is really talented.’ So we work them a little bit more than maybe you’ve seen in the past. We’ve given them more of a chance.”

Describing her judging style as “tough, easy and fair,” she noted that she understands the emotions going through hopefuls’ heads. “We know what it’s like to be out there,” Lopez said. “I was energized by all of their spirit when they come in here, and they’re so hopeful about what could happen and how it could be.”

Adam Lambert Encourages Gay Fans In ‘It Gets Better’ Video

adam lambert

Adam Lambert is the latest celebrity to lend his voice to the “It Gets Better” project, aimed at sending strong, positive messages to LGBT youth in light of recent gay teen suicides.

The singer — one of the few openly gay major pop stars — encourages his fans to be who they are and not let bullies win. “It gets better,” the “American Idol” runner-up says in the black-and-white clip that appears to have been filmed backstage at one of his shows, as evidenced by the rack of glam-tastic clothes behind him.

“It seems hard,” he says. “I think being different is always going to be a tough climb. There’s always going to be people that are going to be scared of it. But at the end of the day, if you give those bullies and those people that are so ignorant and fearful of your lifestyle, if you give them the power to affect you, you’re letting them win, and they don’t deserve that. What you’re doing by being who you are is you’re keeping it real and being really brave.”

In the 90-second clip, Lambert encourages viewers to have pride in themselves and tells them that he loves them just that way. Lambert is the latest star to post a video in the series, started by “Savage Love” columnist Dan Savage in response to the suicide of a 15-year-old Indiana boy who took his own life after being taunted by classmates for being gay. Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj and Aubrey O’Day have also posted clips or spoken out against bullying over the past few weeks.

“I believe in you. I think it’s great,” Lambert says. “There are a ton of us out here in this world that are just like you, that believe in you.” He goes on to say that despite his success since leaving “American Idol,” which has included world tours, a hit album and big-budget videos, he still struggles with homophobic bullying.

“Even someone like me, someone that has recently come into some success in his career,” he says. “I’m touring the world, I have a CD out, I do music videos, I’m living my dream. Even I get bullied. You look under any comment section on any article, and there’s bullies in there telling me that I’m a f—-t, that I’m ugly, that I’m gross — ‘Ew, gross, nasty, he’s a girly’ — all this crap. I’m singled out and it’s all ‘gay, gay, gay, gay, gay,’ even though there is so much more to me than just who I choose to sleep with. …

“So the thing at the end of the day is, ladies and gentlemen, that you are so much more than your orientation,” he continues. “You know it and I know it. So don’t let those bullies and those ignorant, fearful, small-minded people prove you wrong. You have to be strong, and you have to pay attention to the positive. And in doing so, you will push through and you will rise up and you will live your life to the fullest. It gets better, but it’s up to you.”

Justin Bieber To Release Acoustic Album

justin bieber

Justin Bieber has revealed that this holiday season he’s going to release an acoustic album. He made the announcement via Twitter.

“Curious…What is your favorite song on MY WORLD and MY WORLD 2.0?? If you could remix any song with another artist which would it be? And who would you want me to duet with?? and on which song?? Thanks,” he initially tweeted before spilling a few more beans about the forthcoming release.

In addition to old tunes, it seems this album will feature a brand-new song as well. “hey dankanter I think it’s time to make an UNPLUGGED album for the fans for the holidays….or maybe we already did…hmmmm,” he then tweeted to Dan Kanter, the singer’s musical director and guitarist. “Maybe we need to give everybody an UNPLUGGED acoustic album with that new song I cut in Hawaii for the holidays…thoughts???”

Bieber, who plays acoustic guitar during many of his live performances, then revealed that he has already recorded songs for the album. Further information, including the release date and the album’s title, was not available at press time. “So I’m thinking about breaking out the acoustic guitar and having some fun… …so an UNPLUGGED album for the HOLIDAYS????” he wrote. “Listening to tracks from the new UNPLUGGED acoustic album. feeling really good about it. dankanter u excited. back to the roots.”

Kanter tweeted about the vibe of the album. “@justinbieber Loving the percussion… Cajones and congas!” he teased. “Definitely an influence from our travels around the world!”

At the VMAs, Bieber revealed that he is working on an album of all-new music as well. “[It'll] probably [come out] fourth quarter next year,” he said. “Drake is gonna be on that album; I’m not sure [who else]. I’m gonna ask him if he can get [Lil] Wayne on there.”

Justin Bieber Reportedly Under Investigation For Laser Tag Scuffle

justin bieber

Teen superstar Justin Bieber is reportedly involved in an investigation in his native Canada for an alleged assault at a Richmond, British Columbia laser tag center.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed Sunday (October 17) that an investigation was underway regarding an incident at a “Richmond entertainment facility” just before 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The father of a 12-year-old boy told authorities that his son was assaulted by another young male at the facility. The tween didn’t need medical attention and walked away with “minimal injuries.”

Since the suspect is under 18, police have not released the name of the accused party. However, many reports have stated that 16-year-old Bieber is being pegged as the attacker and the RCMP has stated, “We are aware of speculations concerning the identity of one of the parties allegedly involved.”

A rep for Bieber did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment at press time. Bieber, an avid tweeter, has not yet addressed reports either.

Unnamed sources have told TMZ that the incident went down at Planet Lazer, a laser tag chain that has a location in Richmond. The website, however, paints a different picture of the incident, reporting that Bieber was targeted by an overzealous laser tag participant who lobbed an anti-gay slur at the teen idol. When the 12-year-old stuck his hand out toward Bieber, the pop sensation apparently batted it away and then left the center.

The incident comes during a busy time for the “Baby” crooner. The singer announced Friday that his buzzed-about 3-D flick “Never Say Never” will be released in February. His illustrated memoir, “Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story,” just hit shelves and he is helming a nail polish line. His chart-topping music continues to make an impact and the singer is up for four American Music Award trophies.

Lady Gaga Challenger ‘Confident’ She Could Win In A Sing-Off

alisa apps lady gaga

Upstart vocalist Alisa Apps has nabbed headlines by challenging megastar pop queen Lady Gaga to a $1 million singing contest. To some onlookers, the contest may have appeared to come out of nowhere, but Apps has explained that her dedicated fans urged her to take on Mother Monster. During an interview that aired Friday (October 15) on MTV’s “The Seven,” the singer detailed the origins of the vocal battle.

“I had my fans writing to me and saying, ‘Hey, I think you’re better than Lady Gaga and … it’d be cool for you to challenge her somehow,’ ” Apps told “Seven” host Kevin.

The singer maintained that her goal isn’t to make nice with Gaga and added that a little rivalry keeps everyone on their toes.

“It’s not really about co-existing,” Apps said. “I think that competition is a good thing. It makes things more fun and exciting.”

Gaga’s camp was mum when MTV News reached out for comment about the challenge a few days ago, and Apps revealed that she hasn’t “heard anything yet from her camp but I’m excited to.”

Although no word about the challenge has surfaced from the “Bad Romance” diva, Apps still seems ready to show off her skills in a singing smack-down.

“I’m confident that, yeah, I am a better singer than her,” she said.

When Apps first proposed the $1 million contest, which would entail both singers belting out a series of songs for a panel of judges who would determine the victor, she said she felt it would be the ultimate clash of genuine musicianship versus slick music-industry marketing.

“I feel sorry for Lady Gaga — she’s just a plastic doll generated by the music money marketing machine,” Apps said a press release. “I stand for the voice of your heart. Be real with me. Come to my world and feel. I want to hear you and for you to hear me. This contest gives people a chance to choose which they prefer: plastic or real.”

Christina Aguilera Files For Divorce

christina aguilera jordan bratman

Christina Aguilera has filed for divorce from her husband of nearly five years, Jordan Bratman. The singer filed papers on Thursday (October 14), according to TMZ, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

On Tuesday, the singer confirmed the couple was splitting. She issued a statement after rumors about the couple’s marriage began to circulate earlier that day. “Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever,” Aguilera said.

The petition notes the existence of a prenuptial agreement that maintains “earnings and accumulations of [Aguilera] before marriage, during marriage and from and after the date of separation” be considered separate property. The singer is being represented by powerhouse lawyer Laura Wasser. September 11, 2010 is reportedly listed as the date of separation. The petition also seeks to block any attempt by Bratman to receive child support from the singer, who is seeking joint physical and legal custody of their 2-year-old son, Max.

After meeting the music marketing executive at her music management firm, Azoff Music Management, in 2002, Aguilera and Bratman married in November 2005 in Napa Valley. They had their son, Max, in January 2008. Before the release of her album Bionic earlier this year, Aguilera talked about married life and gave no indication of the impending split, noting that she and Bratman still enjoyed “naked Sundays.”

“I think it’s important that [Max] sees mommy not be ashamed for her sexuality. … We’re art collectors, there are a lot of female nudes around the house. Max will be growing up in a house where it’s just the norm. … It’s only weird when you shame it,” she said. “I’m more confident and comfortable in my own skin. I think I’m even a more sexual Christina.”

Justin Bieber Displays His Rap Skills In New Twitter Video

justin bieber

Having given fans a taste of his rapping skills during live performances of “Baby” when he tackles the verse Ludacris recorded for the tune, Justin Bieber is now displaying his keen spitting prowess in a new video posted on his Twitter. In the grainy clip titled “Speaking in Tongues,” Bieber raps his own lyrics over Cam’ron and Vado’s “Speakin Tongues,” and in a message posted on the webpage, he announced that his rap alias is Shawty Mane.

“Speaking in tongues freestyle… who knew I could rap lol,” he wrote. “My alter ego rap name is Shawty Mane… hah.”

The video features shots of Bieber in the studio and hanging out in the streets rocking some glasses. Early on, he gives a shout-out to Lady Gaga: “Call up Lady Gaga on my on my telephone/ Hello doll/ You’re my girl/ Beats no metronome.”

He then talks up his own capabilities, rhyming, “So I’m raptor/ Tearing it up like a tractor/ Matter fact you’re not feeling this track, you’re a slacker.” Later, he raps, “Stop, drop and roll/ Justin Bieber’s on fire/ It’s time to realize it’s time to call me young sire.”

At the end of the clip, Bieber — who hangs out with such hip-hop heavyweights as Drake, Kanye West and the aforementioned Luda — has a little message for those listening to the track. “You guys might know me as the guy who sings ‘Baby’/ You know, uh, I’m a singer, pop singer/ I’m white/ But, um, you know I just wanted to do this just to prove that/ You know I got skills, on, on, on the rap game.”

Last December, Bieber’s pal, rapper Asher Roth, defended his buddy’s rapping skills to MTV News. “He lived like a block away from me. Watching him is like watching your little brother. It’s crazy,” Roth said, referring to their time in Atlanta together. “He can rap. I put him on a remix, but I don’t think his mom would like that very much.”

Lady Gaga Challenged To $1 Million Sing-Off By L.A. Performer

alisa apps

Alisa Apps is a Los Angeles-based singer who really, truly believes she is better than Lady Gaga … and she’s willing to go head-to-head with her to prove it.

On Tuesday, Apps challenged Gaga to a televised sing-off — which she proposed would take place at either New York’s Madison Square Garden or London’s O2 Arena — with the winner taking home a cash prize of $1 million. Each artist would perform a series of songs, with a panel of judges determining just who is the superior singer.

Challenging the reigning queen of pop music is a pretty ingenious way to garner headlines, but according to Apps, she’s not stepping to Gaga to make a name for herself. She’s doing it out of pity — and to prove a point.

“I feel sorry for Lady Gaga — she’s just a plastic doll generated by the music money marketing machine,” Apps said in an alliteration-heavy press release. “I stand for the voice of your heart. Be real with me. Come to my world and feel. I want to hear you and for you to hear me. This contest gives people a chance to choose which they prefer: plastic or real.”

Oh snap. Apps — who, according to her MySpace page, is signed to a “major” label (but has, to the best of our knowledge, yet to release a major-label album) — does command a rather robust YouTube fanbase, with a video of her performing an original song called “How Do I Make Right?” racking up more than 1 million views. It also bears mention that, back in 2008, on her official YouTube channel, she took aim at diva Mariah Carey with a stunt she called “The Pop Star Challenge”.

Apps did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment on the Gaga challenge by press time; nor did a rep for Gaga, though, really, that didn’t surprise us all that much.

Ke$ha To Return With Cannibal On November 22

ke$ha

Taking a page from Lady Gaga’s playbook, Ke$ha will return November 22 with Cannibal, a nine-song “companion” to her platinum-plus debut disc Animal that, like Gaga’s The Fame Monster, will be sold both as a standalone album and as part of a deluxe reissue.

According to a press release sent Wednesday (October 13) by her label, RCA, Cannibal will feature eight brand-new songs — produced by the likes of Max Martin, Benny Blanco and Bangladesh — and a new remix. The first single from the mini-album, “We R Who We R,” is scheduled to hit radio Thursday.

Cannibal is set to be released both on its own and bundled with Ke$ha’s Animal disc in a reissue called — fittingly enough — Animal + Cannibal. And if the whole thing sounds rather, well, ravenous, well, that’s pretty much what the singer had in mind.

“This year has been carnivorous and life-changing. I have my rowdy, gorgeous fans to thank for taking me on the ride of a lifetime,” she said in a statement. “My only goal with this record is to keep them dancing. The songs on Cannibal were made to inspire people to ignore any hate or judgment and be themselves unapologetically. It’s the perfect companion to Animal and I hope you guys like it. And if you don’t like it — bite me.”

Well, OK then. The announcement of Cannibal comes one day after the news that Ke$ha had been nominated for three American Music Awards — more than any artist not named Eminem, Justin Bieber and Lady Anteb

T.I. Helps Talk Suicidal Jumper Down From Atlanta Building

t.i.

T.I. has touched many people with his lyrics and on Wednesday (October 13), the MC’s words may have saved a life. A young man who threatened to jump off an Atlanta building was coaxed out of committing suicide with the help of the superstar rapper.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a man ascended to the roof of a 22-story building on Peachtree Street just before 4 p.m., threatening to leap to his death. T.I. (born Clifford Harris) told NBC affiliate 11Alive News that he volunteered to help after hearing about the situation on the city’s V-103 radio station, which is housed in the Colony Square skyscraper, where the man was threatening to take his own life.

“He came to the scene and offered to talk to him, we told the young man that, and he came down,” Officer James Polite told The AJC. The MC reportedly spoke to the man for a few minutes before he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Polite said the man would not face charges. Polite added that authorities appreciated the help.

“He didn’t have to stop. He could’ve kept on going about his business,” Polite said. “We’re happy it ended the way it did, and we thank him.”

The Good Samaritan move comes days before T.I. is scheduled to face his own legal troubles. The chart-topping MC is due in court on Friday after getting arrested in Los Angeles for drug possession. The lyricist is currently on probation after wrapping up a recent jail bid for weapons charges and the arrest is a possible violation of his probation terms.

T.I. reportedly expressed remorse to V-103 listeners for his recent slip-up and vowed to turn things around. (Tip also gave an update on his music — head to the RapFix blog for more.)

Christina Aguilera Confirms Split From Jordan Bratman

christina aguilera

It’s shaping up to be the week of celebrity breakups. Not long after David Arquette’s call to Howard Stern on Tuesday morning (October 12) to discuss his split with wife Courteney Cox, Christina Aguilera issued a statement to confirm her separation from husband Jordan Bratman.

“Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever,” Aguilera said in the statement.

A source told UsMagazine.com that they “have been separated for a few months … they are now living apart, and they will see how that goes.” The pair have not yet decided to divorce, and both remain committed to their child who right now is “their main concern.” “They were very much in love. But over the last six months, it became clear they were more like friends than husband and wife.” The source added that Aguilera even “proposed their August trip to Italy to rekindle their relationship, but it didn’t help.”

After meeting the music marketing executive at her music management firm, Azoff Music Management, in 2002, Aguilera and Bratman married in November 2005 in Napa Valley. They had their son, Max, in January 2008.

While promoting her album Bionic earlier this year, Aguilera didn’t shy away from speaking about her family and gave no indication of the impending split, noting that she and Bratman still had “naked Sundays.”

Adam Lambert Agrees To Tone Down Malaysian Concert

adam lambert malaysia

Adam Lambert, like Gwen Stefani and Fergie before him, has been asked to tone down his sometimes racy act during a performance in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday.

Lambert agreed to do so after drawing criticism from Malaysia’s Islamic opposition party over his over-the-top stage show, where he has the tendency toward kissing his male band members. In an interview with the Associated Press, the singer said his “main goal is to keep people entertained — not to make them uncomfortable.

“It’s something I’m doing out of respect,” Lambert continued. “It’s just one little thing. A man kissing another man is something that government really doesn’t appreciate.”

Malaysia’s Islamic opposition party claims that Lambert “promotes homosexuality”; Lambert countered by saying that he “promotes living ANY lifestyle that includes the freedom to seek love and intimacy. Gay, straight, bi, young or old. It’s all inclusive.”

In the end, though, he decided it was more important to play the show than to cancel it. “I think it’s a tough decision to make,” he said. “But to me, there are so many amazing fans in Malaysia that it’s more important for me to be able to come and do my show there for them and entertain them and thank them for supporting me.”

Yuen-See Cho of Sony Music in Malaysia also spoke about Lambert’s decision, noting that the singer “agreed to respect the guidelines that are set by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. We have shared with him in terms of what are the do’s and don’t’s … dressing and stuff like that.”

Rihanna Sings Praises Of Loud Collaborator Nicki Minaj

rihanna nicki minaj

Though scheduling issues forced Nicki Minaj to drop out of Rihanna’s Last Girl on Earth tour this summer, the pair did eventually get to hook up on “Raining Men,” a track that will appear on the singer’s forthcoming album, Loud. And from the way RiRi praises the up-and-coming Minaj, this won’t be their last time working together.

“You know, I worked with her before on [2009's] Rated R and she was just writing me some really good ballads, and I couldn’t wait to work with her again and finally have her on my record,” Rihanna told Capital FM.

Rihanna described “Raining Men” as “a really fun song. … No, nothing like the original. It’s quite uptempo but kind of quirky and funny.”

The singer also noted in the interview that she loves Nicki’s completely over-the-top persona. “She has a great buzz and she has a ‘thing’ to her. She is a star and that’s why people love her. She’s also really entertaining with her visual as well as her lyrics, and she has a great melody.”

She was quick to point out, though, that Nicki is also a truly talented artist. “I’m really amazed that she can write like that. [Nicki] not only raps but she can write songs too,” Rihanna explained. “It was really easy actually. We were going back and forth with the texts on how we were going to get to do it because we were in two different places and had two opposite schedules.”

As for the album, after a mixed reaction to Rated R, Rihanna has noted that she stepped up her game for this next effort. “I made sure not to let you down with my music! You guys are always defending me, so now you’ve got some great songs to justify it,” Rihanna told fans back in September when she announced the title of her forthcoming release. “I didn’t want to go backward and remake [2007's] Good Girl Gone Bad. I wanted the next step in the evolution of Rihanna, and it’s perfect for us.”

Besides the Minaj collaboration, Rihanna also hooked up with Drake for a remix version of “What’s My Name” that will appear as a bonus track on Loud. The album is scheduled to hit stores on November 16.

Taylor Swift Will ‘Always’ Have A Crush On Taylor Lautner

taylor swift taylor lautner

On Tuesday (October 12), Taylor Swift released a new tune, the breakup ballad “Back to December,” and fans quickly started speculating that the song was about former flame Taylor Lautner.

We might never know who the song is really about, but in the new issue of Ladies’ Home Journal, Swift admits that she might always have feelings for the “Twilight” heartthrob. When asked to name her current crush, Swift replied, “Taylor Lautner. It’s always going to be Taylor.”

Aside from her Lautner love, Swift also talked about what she looks for in a guy. “Someone who loves you for who you are. I like doing cute art projects with glitter, and there have been guys who’ve made me feel like that’s weird,” she explained. “But then there are guys who find it endearing.”

Swift didn’t just open up about her love life; she also talked about her upcoming album, Speak Now, which she called “diverse, detailed, relationship-y. I’m turning relationship into an adjective.”

She shared a bit about the creative process that went into making the project, which is due October 25. “My songs are like open letters. They say everything I wished I had said when certain people were standing right next to me. I imagine I’ll be getting a few text messages from these people once the album comes out. I have an app on my iPhone that’s a voice recorder. I’ll be in the middle of a conversation, and I’ll literally walk away to record a bridge, a pre-chorus or half of a hook, then go right back to the conversation like nothing happened.”

The superstar also revealed a surprising dream collaborator: Jay-Z. “Our genres are completely different, but there could be something cool about that,” she said.

Justin Bieber Spotted With Jasmine Villegas In Hawaii

justin bieber

Justin Bieber was in Hawaii over the weekend. The singer’s My World tour made two stops in Honolulu, and Bieber was joined by Jasmine Villegas, who is not only his current opening act but also his rumored girlfriend.

Justjared.com has a photo of the two exchanging a big hug as she met up with the teen star for the shows on Friday. On Sunday the pair, along with pal Jaden Smith, reportedly went for a boat ride on a catamaran called Mai Tai.

When Bieber wasn’t busy having fun in Hawaii he was tweeting about his time there. “Sick day out on the boat with the whole crew. Little jack johnson playing and some sunshine and some sea turtles and dolphins. Great day,” he wrote. “Hawaii lets spend some more time together.”

He later retweeted a message posted by his manager. “RT: scooterbraun time to go make some memories. Live a story dont just read about them!” he tweeted, showing a cake with his picture on it that read “Aloha to Justin Bieber.”

But like all good things, his time in Hawaii came to an end. “I’m really gonna miss Hawaii. it is awesome here. but Japan…im not complaining…haha. See u guys soon,” he shared. He also gave his fans a bit of an update on his forthcoming 3-D movie. “@jonmchu I think we got some surprises to share with everybody from the movie this month,” he teased.

Last month, in an interview posted online, Villegas talked about Bieber, without addressing the rumors of their relationship. “There’s not much that I would know that people don’t know because Justin is just 100 percent [real] with his fans and his friends and he gives everybody his full personality,” she dished. “So that’s a really good thing about him. He’s not fake at all. He’s just like, ‘I’m Justin. Here’s me.’

Justin Bieber Designing Nail Polish Line

justin bieber

You know what would go great with that eye shadow? Some One Less Lonely Girl lavender nail polish. Luckily, your boy Justin Bieber is thinking only of you and is about to launch an exclusive line of polishes called One Less Lonely Girl at Wal-Mart, inspired by his biggest hits.

According to AOL’s Stylelist, Bieber has teamed up with Nicole by OPI to design for a collection of nail polishes that will hit stores just in time for the holidays. Among the primary colors on tap are One Less Lonely Glitter (lavender), Prized Possession Purple (grape), Give Me the First Dance (silver), Me + Blue (dark blue), OMB! (bright red) and Step 2 the Beat of My Heart (heart-shaped glitter). The first six shades will be available in December, with eight others to follow in January.

After debuting exclusively at Wal-Mart, the shades will then be available at Target, Sears and other mass merchandisers in February. That’s not the only Bieb schwag that will be hitting stores over the next few months. The singer has his first book, “Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story,” out in stores on October 12, a bevy of Halloween costume options, his upcoming line of dolls (also due in December) and his in-process 3-D concert movie, slated for release on February 11.

If none of those is up your alley, Bieber has plenty of other gift ideas in his official store), from a set of Christmas cards ($30), to a full-size cardboard stand-up ($35), aluminum water bottle ($15), lunch box ($30) and rubber bracelet ($10).

Lady Gaga’s Perfume To Be Called ‘Monster’

lady gaga

Lady Gaga has made no secret of her love for her fans, whom she calls her little monsters. The mother monster herself even has their moniker tattooed on her body and frequently talks about them in interviews. So it should come as no surprise that Gaga is naming her new perfume line in honor of her fans.

Well, according to documents obtained by TMZ, Gaga’s first fragrance will be called Monster. The website has learned that the company launching the singer’s fragrance has filed trademark paperwork for the name “Monster” to use for a “perfumery.” The fragrance is expected to hit stores in 2012.

Last month, it was announced that Gaga signed a deal with Coty Inc. to create fragrances, following in the footsteps of other pop stars like Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani and Hilary Duff. Stephen Mormoris, senior vice president of global marketing in the Coty Beauty division, explained that this is the right time to work with Gaga because she is a “phenomenon” and “a fascinating cultural force.” Mormoris said he hopes Gaga’s mass appeal will “electrify” the market on behalf of his company.

This is Gaga’s latest business venture. She’s already inked a deal with Polaroid and designed Heartbeats headphones. The pop star has also been rumored to be designing her own line of sunglasses for British eyewear company Linda Farrow. In the past, Gaga has said that she’s very particular about what brands she hooks up with. “I don’t see the headphones as separate from what I already do. That’s why I was OK with doing it,” she told MTV News last November. ” ‘Cause designing and putting out products is something that is very kind of funny when you’re a musician — ’cause I don’t want my fans or anyone to think that I don’t put the music first.”

Lady Gaga’s ‘Sopranos’ Cameo Surfaces

lady gaga

The sunken treasure that is Lady Gaga’s pop-culture past continues to reap Internet gold. In January, we hauled out a clip from the pop star’s nearly forgotten appearance on “The Hills,” when she popped up in a vinyl bodysuit and required some zipper assistance from Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port.

Now, further proving the point that the Internet never forgets, Gaga’s 2001 appearance on “The Sopranos” has shown up online. The episode, called “The Telltale Moozadell,” is from the third season of the hit HBO show.

Mob boss Tony Soprano’s son, A.J., is acting out while at the school pool with friends. Wearing a black top and jeans, Gaga is one of three girls hanging out, smoking cigarettes and watching the boys swim. One of A.J.’s friends then gets the idea to chuck a desk into the water. From there it’s a free-for-all, as Gaga and her pals toss equipment and sports trophies into the pool. A.J. ends up getting probation. Gaga, alas, is never heard from again. The episode aired when the future superstar was just 15 years old.

Her gig as an extra on “The Sopranos,” though, was not the only time Gaga ended up on TV before she took on her famous moniker. As previously revealed, she once appeared on an episode of MTV’s “Boiling Points,” a hidden-camera show in which unwitting contestants had to keep their cool as various undercover actors tried to annoy them. Gaga didn’t do so well, unleashing a bleep-worthy word after a waitress brought her a soiled salad.

“Who puts that in their mouth? Would you put that in your mouth?” she said. “It has sh– all over it!”

Miley Cyrus ‘Who Owns My Heart’ Video Blasted By Parents Television Council

miley cyrus

Miley Cyrus’ new single, “Who Owns My Heart,” may question who the pop star’s latest boy toy is but the video certainly declares that the teen singer is embracing a sexier persona. However, some believe the 17-year-old singer’s racy image is damaging to her legions of young fans.

In the clip, a scantily-clad Cyrus gets dolled up in her room and shows a lot of leg while grooving in the backseat of a car on her way to a rager at a mansion. The teen starlet then spends most of the video dancing in tiny shorts, a revealing halter, big hair and heels and partying until the wee hours.

Tim Winter, who serves as president of the Parents Television Council, told TMZ that the “Hannah Montana” star’s sexed-up clip relays the wrong message to her teen following.

“It is unfortunate that she would participate in such a sexualized video like this one,” Winter said. “It sends messages to her fanbase that are diametrically opposed to everything she has done up to this point. Miley built her fame and fortune entirely on the backs of young girls, and it saddens us that she seems so eager to distance herself from that fanbase so rapidly.”

This isn’t the first time the Disney star has faced controversy in her attempts to break away from her squeaky-clean, teen idol status. Her pole-dancing move at the at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards grabbed headlines and her latest LP, Can’t Be Tamed, features a much more vampy persona than her “Hannah Montana” alter ego.

“I’m a completely different person [than when I released 2008's Breakout]. I’m much more confident. You know, I’ve always been a confident person, but I was going through a lot then,” Cyrus told MTV News in June. “There’s so many people in your life telling you who you should and shouldn’t be,” Cyrus said. “And that’s what Tamed [is] about. It’s about being who you are to the fullest. And now I know who that is.”

The group has also recently slammed the Britney/Brittany “Glee” episode.

Rihanna Says Boyfriend Matt Kemp Prefers Her Loud Ballads

rihanna

Rihanna’s making a bold statement with the title of her fifth disc, Loud, but her boyfriend, Los Angeles Dodger Matt Kemp, is all about the quieter moments on her new album.

In an interview with U.K. radio station 95.8 Capital FM, the “Only Girl (In the World)” singer revealed that she’s played some of her new tracks for her beau, and while he’s feeling most of the record, he’s really into the slow jams.

“He really likes, actually, the ballads on the album. Those are his favorite ones,” Rihanna said. The songstress, who described the vibe of her next effort as “fearless,” “bold” and “colorful,” predicted that one of the slower numbers could turn out to be a hit.

“The ballads on this album are really special. I didn’t want to just put a bunch of ballads on the album, I actually wanted to keep it minimal with slow records,” she explained. “But there are really two powerful ballads. One is called ‘Straight Up Beautiful’ and the other one is called ‘California King Bed’ which is … one of my favorite songs on the album. It’s probably going to be the biggest song on the album. It’s talking about being this close to someone yet feeling so far away, like falling out of love.”

Rihanna said she often looks to her man for feedback on her music.

“I always play him songs when I finish them. I’ll bring them back home and ask him what he thinks. At the end of the day, we still disagree on some things but for the most part … he loves everything on the album,” Rihanna said.

Kemp is into the LP but Rihanna concedes there is one exception.

“‘Who’s That Chick,’ he doesn’t really like that one,” she admitted about the peppy, David Guetta-helmed track. “I guess it’s too lightweight pop for him.”

Pink Says ‘Love Is Louder Than Fear’

pink

Pink has never been one to keep her opinions to herself, so it should come as no surprise that she’s just recorded a message for Love is Louder, the viral campaign launched by MTV, actress Brittany Snow and the Jed Foundation (with support from DoSomething.org, the Trevor Project, Reach Out, Active Minds and the Ad Council).

And it should also come as no surprise that she comes out swinging in her video, reaching out to not only teens who are bullied, but the bullies themselves too.

“Love is louder than fear; love is louder than ignorance; love is louder than pain; love is louder than anything,” Pink says. “If there’s any bullies out there that really need to take their anger out on someone, come find me.”

Pink is just the latest in an ever-growing list of stars that have lent their support to Love Is Louder. In recent weeks, everyone from “Twilight’s” Kellan Lutz to the “Jersey Shore’s” Snooki and JWoww have filmed videos for the campaign, started in the wake of the suicide of Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi, who took his own life after his roommate posted footage of a sexual encounter between him and another man online.

Of course, her Love Is Louder message isn’t the only reason Pink is making headlines these days. She’s just announced that the video for “Raise Your Glass” — a single off her upcoming Greatest Hits … So Far!!! album — will take place at a gay wedding, an idea inspired by a real-life experience.

“I threw my best friend’s wedding in my backyard. [She] is gay, and she married her wife, and it was absolutely beautiful,” she told InDemand.fm. “At the end of it, her mom said, ‘Why can’t this be legal?’ and started crying. It was just the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever seen, so that’s why I’m doing it in my video.”

Korean Boy Band JYJ Heads To Asia For Showcase Tour

jyj

JYJ, which includes 3 main members from TVXQ (arguably the biggest selling male vocal group in Asia), has teamed up with A-list US producers Kanye West and Rodney Jerkins for their global album debut The Beginning. The title of the album is synonymous with their journey to date and marks a first for the group to release an English language album.

JYJ has an enormous fan base worldwide and the trio made it to the Guinness Book Records in 2008 and 2009 for having the World’s Largest Official Fan Club at over 800,000 members in Seoul alone and being The Most Photographed Celebrities in the World shot an estimated 500 million times in magazines, albums jackets, and commercials from the time of their debut in 2003 to May 19 2009 with their former group.

The first single off the album “Ayyy Girl” is produced by Kanye West who lends his vocals to the song. It also features the maestro of spoken word, Malik “The Poet” Yusef. It’s a song that depicts the quest of seeking that perfect girl but when you find her, things are never quite as perfect as you envision it to be.

Besides the catchy first single by Kanye West, The Beginning also sees original compositions by top music producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. The two tracks are “Empty” and “Be My Girl”.

“I’m really glad to work with JYJ on their debut album. It’s all about the East meeting the West these days and the world is becoming a melting pot of various cultures. To have Kanye and myself champion the cause of unifying the world through the international language of music and introducing top artistes from one end of the globe to this end in America makes this a very special project to us” adds Rodney Jerkins.

Other than the creative collaborations with the US top producers onboard, JYJ who has been dabbling in songwriting since their teenage days, have also contributed a song each to the album. The tracks are “Still in Love” Jaejung, “I Can Soar” Junsu and “I Love You” Yuchun.

To promote the album, JYJ will be embarking on an eight-city new album showcase tour from October 15 to the end of November in Asia and the US. The Asian dates of the tour are as follows:

Katy Perry Releases ‘Firework’ Artwork

katy perry

Katy Perry’s next single, “Firework,” is set to hit airwaves on October 26, and even though the song is about colorful outbursts, the single’s stark artwork is mostly rendered in black and white. Perry, shot from her shoulders up, is rocking her signature bangs and wearing lots of eyeliner.

Perry also took to her Twitter account late Wednesday (October 6) to drop hints about her forthcoming tour. She tweeted, “I will OFFICIALLY announce the start of my TOUR on MONDAY… oy, I hate secrets BUT I love surprises! Guess what it’s called…?”

Perry tweeted about the “Fireworks” video shoot at the end of September, although at the time, she played coy about what song would be accompanying the clip. She simply noted that the end result would be “sparkling,” which now seems fitting considering the song’s title.

Perry didn’t go into details about the clip’s concept, but she did thank the people she worked with on Twitter. “Not gonna stop shooting till the sun comes up cause we are a LIGHT in a dark place!” She wrapped the shoot on September 30, saying, “I want to thank all the magical people that brought their sparks to this video the past few days … your light reminded me of my purpose.”

Perry has been open about her love for the song Teenage Dream’s release. “People are coming back and almost adopting it as their own anthem, and it’s hard, I think, to write an anthem that’s not cheesy,” she told MTV News. “And I hope that this could be something in that category. I hope this could be one of those things where it’s like, ‘Yeah, I want to put my fist up and feel proud and feel strong.’

“But I also don’t want to be cheesy,” she reiterated. “It’s a fine line, and I think ‘Firework’ … would be like the opus or my one song — if I had to pick a song to play — ’cause it has a great beat. But it also has a fantastic message.”

‘Glee’ Britney Spears Episode Slammed By Parents Television Council

glee

Last week’s episode of “Glee” found Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) shouting, “It’s a Britney Spears sex riot!” as she attempted to put a stop to the glee club’s saucy rendition of “Toxic.”

But she’s not the only one who had an issue with the Spears takeover at William McKinley High School. The hit Fox show has come under fire as the Parents Television Council has deemed the “Britney/Brittany” episode the “Worst TV Show of the Week” due to the broadcast’s “explicit sexual content.”

A message posted on the organization’s website decries the episode’s “skimpy outfits” and “sultry grinds” during “I’m a Slave 4 U.” And even though “Glee” castmembers show very little skin in the re-creation for the 2001 Madonna duet “Me Against the Music,” the PTC said the interpretation included “plenty of girl-girl bumping and grinding.”

According to the group, the tribute to the always-controversial Spears wasn’t appropriate because the singer is far from a well-suited role model. “Glee earned its highest ratings ever with this Britney Spears tribute, drawing 13.3 million viewers,” the message continued. “A scary thought considering that the mostly young teen/tween audience basically witnessed an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation, and school-sanctioned burlesque. But perhaps most troubling is the deification of a troubled pop star into a symbol of empowerment and self-esteem. Considering her stints in rehab, her very public breakdowns, and her questionable parenting skills, there is absolutely no way Spears should be considered a role model. The producers of the show can spare us the old song-and-dance about fallen celebs turning their lives around. What’s next? Portraying Ike Turner as a reformed feminist?”

Spears knows controversy and criticism far too well. Since the beginning of her career, she’s always raised eyebrows with everything from her sex-kitten public image to her sometimes-questionable parental judgment. While the pop star has stayed relatively safe since her comeback, the singer did make headlines last year for her suggestive single “If U Seek Amy,” the third offering from her album Circus.

Black Eyed Peas To Go Back To The Beginning

black eyed peas

The Black Eyed Peas have already taken millions of us to The E.N.D., so it only makes sense that on their upcoming album they’re going to take us back to The Beginning. That’s the name of the sequel to last year’s nearly triple-platinum album, which just last week fell out of the top 40 on the Billboard albums chart after more than a year on the tally. A spokesperson for the band’s label confirmed the title of the LP and its November 30 release date to MTV News.

In a recent Dipdive.com interview from the set of will.i.am and Nicki Minaj’s “Check It Out” video, BEP leader will.i.am revealed that the band has a new collaborator on the disc: Damien “DJ Ammo” LeRoy, who worked on four songs. According to his online bio, the little known, Los Angeles-based Ammo regularly DJs all over the world and has played parties for Will, BEP singer Fergie and Outkast. Ammo is also behind remixes for the Veronicas and the BEPs and produced Kelis’ single “4th of July (Fireworks),” which was released on Will’s label via Interscope.

Will said that in addition to producing three songs himself on the 12-track Beginning, dance-floor master David Guetta had a hand in producing two others. Describing the prequel to The Associated Press back in July, Will described it as symbolizing “growth, new beginnings and starts, fresh new perspective.”

The Peas have a tough act to follow, considering The E.N.D. is certified double-platinum in the U.S. and has produced three #1 singles, including the mega-smashes “I Gotta Feeling” and “Boom Boom Pow.” A first single from the album is tentatively due in October and while fans haven’t heard it yet, will.i.am recently broke down his hit-making strategy for MTV’s “The Seven.”

“We call it ‘A-B-ing.’ Anything you make, there’s nothing new under the sun. So there’s always an ‘A and B’ to whatever your approach is,” he said of producing smashes for everyone from Usher to Estelle and Nicki Minaj. “So if you want a song to be a big #1 smash, then you have to play a Michael Jackson song while you’re making your song.”

He said using an artist such as Jackson as a benchmark will usually let a producer know if a track really has that “It” factor. “What you don’t want to do is have a ‘hit record’ and then turn it on and it isn’t as loud as Michael Jackson’s.”

Taylor Swift Talks Speak Now, Taylor Lautner

In the new issue of Glamour, Taylor Swift opened up about the past two (very active) years of her life. The interview touches on everything from the singer’s relationship with Taylor Lautner to the now-infamous Kanye West incident at the 2009 VMAs — but if you think she doesn’t pull any punches in the cover article, just wait until you hear her new album, Speak Now, which is due October 25.

“I’m not only excited about sharing the songs with fans,” Swift said. “I’m also pretty interested to hear the response from the guys I’ve written about on this record.”

At the VMAs last month, Swift debuted “Innocent,” a song from the album that was almost certainly directed at West, while lead Speak single “Mine” is about falling in love with a man who “made a rebel out of a careless man’s careful daughter.” So clearly, she’s singing from the heart, and she’s not afraid to get personal either.

“Everything that happens to me gets put into a song,” Swift explained. “For some reason, I’m really comfortable talking about my personal life in songs. There, I don’t hold back: names, dates, times, expressions on people’s faces, exactly where we were and how it felt, what I wish I would have said to them in the moment.”

It’s not all acrimonious, though. Swift also revealed that, despite splitting with Lautner, he remains one of her “best friends.” She added that she’s looking for a man “who loves what he does. … These days, I look for character and honesty and trust.” And who knows, in that search, she might just find fodder for the follow-up to Speak Now.

“I like to write about relationships,” she said. “I like it when my friends come over and we crowd around the piano and sing Journey songs at the top of our lungs. … And I like things that make me feel 7 again.”

Taylor Swift Unveils Speak Now Track List

taylor swift

Taylor Swift has already given fans a sneak peek of what her new album will sound like with first single “Mine” and her “Innocent” performance at the Video Music Awards. Now, the singer’s letting fans take a glimpse at the other song titles that make up Speak Now, due October 25, by posting the album’s track list on Facebook.

The set has 14 songs, all penned solely by the 20-year-old, and includes rather personal-sounding titles like “Better Than Revenge” and “Haunted.” But that shouldn’t be a surprise, since the songwriter is known for addressing personal experiences (especially about ex-boyfriends) in her music.

During a chat with fans, Swift revealed that Speak Now is an album full of confessions and firsthand experiences. “For me, I write everything that I live,” she admitted. “So you got to give yourself a little bit of time to live a lot of things so you can write about a lot of things, and my only option is to write about what I’ve been through and what I’ve lived, so thankfully, in the past two years, I’ve experienced a lot of things that I’ve been dying to write about and a lot of things that I wanted to say in the moment that I didn’t.”

The country/pop star has also teamed up with Target to release a deluxe edition of Speak Now, which will include an alternate cover, three new tracks, three remixes and 30 minutes of video content.

While the album doesn’t hit stores for another month, Swift has already found a fan of the project: friend Selena Gomez. “Her album is going to be awesome,” the Disney star gushed. “I think people are gonna be really surprised. It’s not different, [but] you just don’t really believe she could top it, in a way. She took her style and made it bigger. It’s going to be really good.”

Asked for her favorite songs from Swift’s record, Gomez said, “My favorite songs from her record would be ‘Dear John’ and another one … it’s #13 on the record, ’cause that’s her favorite number. … It’s really sweet. There’s two that I’m absolutely in love with.”

The Speak Now track list, according to Swift’s Facebook page:

1. “Mine”
2. “Sparks Fly”
3. “Back to December”
4. “Speak Now”
5. “Dear John”
6. “Mean”
7. “The Story of Us”
8. “Never Grow Up”
9. “Enchanted”
10. “Better Than Revenge”
11. “Innocent”
12. “Haunted”
13. “Last Kiss”
14. “Long Live”

Miley Cyrus Addresses ‘Completely False’ Rumors In Video

miley cyrus

Miley Cyrus is mad as hell, and she’s not going to take it anymore.

In a new YouTube message Cyrus posted late Tuesday — taped in her mother’s shoe closet, by the way — she addressed a number of rumors about her personal life, ripped the paparazzi and expressed a desire to break free of the oppressive shackles of fame. Oh, and she introduced viewers to her sister’s new dog, Feather, too.

“Sometimes, I think it’s important for me to be able to contact to my fans directly. … It’s important … to get in control of what’s actually said about me,” she said in the video. “There’s times where I let things fly, and it’s not enough of a rumor to matter, but sometimes I want my fans to be able to still feel connected to me and not only hear a million different things from a million different ’sources.’

“When things are taken out of context, it ends up hurting my feelings,” she continued. “Because I know things are said about me that are completely false.”

First up on that list of “completely false” things: Rumors that Cyrus is getting engaged to on-again, off-again boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. According to MC, that’s not happening anytime soon.

“No, I’m not getting engaged, or no, I’m not getting married anytime soon … Miley doesn’t need to do anything but sit and chill and enjoy life, and make good music — music that I love — and that’s the most important thing,” she said. “I don’t need any type of commitment, I’m not planning on getting married anytime soon, and no, I’m not living with anybody, that’s a rumor that’s been going on since I got my first boyfriend ever.

“I definitely don’t want people to think I’m trying to get married anytime soon,” she added. “I’m way too driven right now, first of all, I’m 17, ridiculous, and second of all, I’ve got so much work I want to get done … there’s no way.”

Next up: Stories like this one, which insinuated that Cyrus ran into trouble with the law for using her cell phone while driving. Turns out, gossip sites are reporting only one side of that story.

“Oh, the best rumor that I heard, which is actually pretty hilarious: I called the cops because the paparazzi started making me nervous because I was driving,” Cyrus explained. “[So] I pull over, the paparazzi get out and start taking pictures of me, and the next day I get ‘escorted home’ because I’m talking on the cell phone. … It was just ridiculous. Really, I called the cops to get away from the paparazzi.”

Cyrus also let it be known that “No, I don’t want a boob job,” and wrapped up the 10-minute video by launching into an attack on the paparazzi who follow her on a daily basis, and who may very well be ruining her life.

“I want people to know, I think in pictures I always look upset. It’s because these cameras are following me, and I just think it’s really unfair,” she said. “I know there some people that maybe like that attention, but I’m not one of them. I really just want to go on walks and enjoy where I live. The paparazzi really frustrate me, and it makes me really upset that I’m being followed around by men that I don’t know, and for anyone else, it would be considered stalking. I don’t know who those guys are. I don’t know if they’re good guys or bad guys. I don’t necessarily care; I don’t want anyone following me.”

Paris Hilton Denied Entry Into Japan

Paris Hilton’s music career has stalled out at this point, but the socialite can now claim to be in the same class as such pop icons as Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones after Japanese officials denied her entry into the country on Wednesday (September 22).

Hilton flew to Japan following her guilty plea on Monday in Las Vegas to misdemeanor drug possession charges, but the hotel heiress got only as far as the airport in Narita, where officials held her for six hours of questioning before telling the 29-year-old that she was not allowed to enter the country.

According to The Associated Press, Hilton was forced to cancel her Asia press tour in support of her clothing line and return home on Wednesday because Japanese officials decided that her recent drug conviction violated strict Japanese immigration laws that deny entry to some visitors convicted of drug offenses.

“I’m going back home, and I look forward to coming back to Japan in the future,” Hilton, smiling, told reporters before boarding her private jet for the flight back home. The about-face meant Hilton would not be able to appear at a Wednesday news conference in Tokyo to promote her fashion and fragrance lines. She also canceled appearances in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Jakarta, Indonesia, which were planned before her August 27 arrest in Las Vegas.

After spending more than six hours over two days being grilled by immigration officials at the airport hotel, a weary Hilton said she would give it a try some other time. “I’m really tired,” she said.

Her spokesperson said in a statement, “Paris is very disappointed and fought hard to keep her business commitments and see her fans, but she is forced to postpone her commitments in Asia. … Paris understands and respects the rules and laws of the immigration authorities in Japan and fully wishes to cooperate with them.”

The hotel heiress was arrested on August 27 in Las Vegas after the SUV she was riding in was pulled over and police found 0.8 grams of cocaine in her purse. Hilton pleaded guilty to drug possession and obstructing an officer in a deal that will save her from serving a one-year term in jail. In return, she has to pay $2,000 in fines, complete 200 hours of community service and complete what is being described as an “intensive” substance abuse program. She was also given a one-year suspended sentence in the case, which means that if she is arrested for anything besides a minor traffic violation in Vegas in the next year, she will have to serve the full one-year term. Hilton will also be on probation for one year.

The terms did not, however, restrict her travel overseas.

An immigration official at the airport said that Hilton might actually have been able to pass the border if she had applied for an entry permit earlier, instead of trying to do so the day after pleading guilty in Las Vegas.

Though Japan takes a tough stance on drug offenses, the bans do not always last and can sometimes be overcome. Soccer icon Diego Maradona was barred from entering the country in 2002 during the World Cup finals due to his multiple past drug arrests but was eventually given a 30-day visa as a “special delegate.” Even though several members had drug issues in their past, the Rolling Stones were also allowed into the country after years of struggles at the border. Former Beatles member Paul McCartney was arrested and deported in 1980 for marijuana possession when he was caught with the drug at the Narita airport.

Lady Gaga Speaks Out Against ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ In Maine

lady gaga

It was probably the smallest stage Lady Gaga has set foot on since her East Village days, but it might have also been the most important.

Because Monday (September 20), on that stage — a simple wooden thing with a brick backdrop — in Portland’s Deering Oaks Park, she spoke loudly, proudly and passionately against “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the long-standing policy that prevents openly gay men and women from serving in the Armed Forces and a policy that, on Tuesday, may very well be ancient history if the Senate approves the National Defense Authorization Act.

Clearly, the stakes are high, and Gaga, ever the entertainer, was more than up to the task. Speaking before an audience of some 4,500 (mostly students from nearby colleges, activists and a few somewhat confused passersby) on behalf of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, she unveiled a speech titled “The Prime Rib of America” that took members of the Senate to task, urged her supporters to action and even managed to tie in rather nicely to the much-discussed “meat dress” she wore to last weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards.

“My name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. I am an American citizen … [and] to the Senate, to Americans, to Senator Olympia Snowe, Senator Susan Collins — both from Maine — and Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts: Equality is the prime rib of America,” she said. “Equality is the prime rib of what we stand for as a nation. And I don’t get to enjoy the greatest cut of meat that my country has to offer. Are you listening? Shouldn’t everyone deserve the right to wear the same meat dress that I did? Repeal ‘don’t ask, don’t tell.’

“I’m here today in this park, in Maine, to say that, if the Senate and the president are not going to repeal this ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy, perhaps they should be more clear with us about who the military is fighting for, who our tax dollars are supporting and, ultimately, how much does the prime rib cost?” she continued. “Because I thought this was an ‘all you can eat’ buffet. This equality stuff, I thought equality meant everyone. But apparently, for certain value meals, for certain civil rights, I have to pay extra, because I’m gay. … When it’s time to order my meal, when it’s time to benefit from the freedoms of the Constitution that I protect and fight for, I have to pay extra. I shouldn’t have to pay extra. I should have the ability, the opportunity, the right to enjoy the same rights — the same piece of meat — that my fellow soldiers, fellow straight soldiers, already have included in their Meal of Rights. It’s prime rib, it’s the same size, it’s the same grade, the same cost, at wholesale cost, and it’s in the Constitution.”

But Gaga’s entire speech wasn’t one long meat analogy. At one point, she drew whoops of support from the crowd by suggesting that several senators — including Arizona Republican John McCain, who plans to lead a filibuster against Tuesday’s vote — were “using homophobia as a defense in their argument” and said that, rather than continue to support “don’t ask, don’t tell,” perhaps those same senators would rather support her proposed piece of legislation.

“Doesn’t it seem to be that ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is backwards? Doesn’t it seem to you that we should send home the prejudiced? The straight soldier who hates the gay soldier? The straight soldier who has prejudice in his heart in the space where the military asks him to hold our core American values?” she asked. “I am here today because I would like to propose a new law; a law that sends home the soldier that has the problem. Our new law is called ‘if you don’t like it, go home.’ If you are not committed to perform with excellence as a United States soldier because you don’t believe in full equality, go home. If you are not honorable enough to fight without prejudice, go home. If you are not capable of keeping your oath to the Armed Forces to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic … then go home.”

Earlier in the afternoon, members of the SLDN — including discharged servicemen Mike Almy and David Hall, both of whom accompanied Gaga to the VMAs — told the crowd their personal stories of unjust prosecution at the hands of “don’t ask.” Portland Mayor Nick Mavodones, who had worked directly with the organization to bring the event to his city, also expressed his distaste for the policy. But the majority of the crowd was here to see Gaga, and she delivered. There were no flashy costumes (she wore a sportcoat, power tie and glasses) or over-the-top showpieces, just one of the biggest pop stars on the planet speaking out against what she considers to be an unjust law — and, hopefully, helping to get it overturned.

“There are amazing heroes here today whose stories are more powerful than any story I could tell, any fight I’ve ever fought, and any song that I could tell,” Gaga said. “I’m here because they inspire me. I’m here because I believe in them. I’m here because ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is wrong … it’s unjust and, fundamentally, it is against all that we stand for as Americans.”

Paris Hilton Pleads Guilty In Las Vegas Cocaine Case

paris hilton

Whether or not it was her purse or her cocaine, Paris Hilton pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors on Monday morning (September 20) in Las Vegas in connection with her arrest last month on drug possession charges.

According to TMZ, Hilton pleaded guilty to drug possession and obstructing an officer in a deal that will save her from serving a one-year term in jail. In return, she has to pay $2,000 in fines, complete 200 hours of community service and complete what is being described as an “intensive” substance abuse program.

The site reported that the judge gave Hilton a one-year suspended sentence in the case, which means that if she is arrested for anything besides a minor traffic violation in Vegas in the next year, she will have to serve the full one-year term. Hilton will also be on probation for one year.

In a tweak to the Hilton family’s business legend, the judge warned the party-loving globe-trotter, “The Clark Country Detention Center is not the Waldorf Astoria.”

Hilton was arrested on August 27 in Las Vegas after the SUV she was riding in was pulled over and police found 0.8 grams of cocaine in her purse. Hilton later claimed the purse didn’t belong to her and blasted rumors surrounding her case.

“Ms. Hilton understands the seriousness of the situation and appreciates the chance she is being given,” the socialite’s lawyer David Chesnoff told The Associated Press over the weekend. “She has to stay out of trouble.”

Lindsay Lohan’s Probation Revoked After Failed Drug Test

lindsay lohan

Lindsay Lohan might soon have more than the embarrassment of a positive drug test to contend with. After admitting Friday to failing a test, TMZ reported Monday (September 20) that Lohan’s probation has been revoked and a bench warrant was issued for her arrest in the incident.

Lohan has been ordered to appear in court Friday morning, which means that, although the warrant was issued Monday, it will be held until she comes before Judge Elden Fox or executed should she fail to appear. The gossip outlet claimed that the revocation came after Fox read about Lohan failing a drug test — the site has claimed she actually failed two recent tests — on TMZ. According to the site, one test showed the presence of cocaine in Lohan’s system and in another, she allegedly tested positive for amphetamines.

Before she entered jail in July, it was revealed that Lohan had a prescription for the ADHD drug Adderall, which is an amphetamine, but it is unknown if it was that prescription medication that caused the positive test.

Lohan’s lawyer could not be reached for comment at press time.

On Monday, Robert J. Lindsey, president and CEO of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency, told MTV News that, while it was not surprising that Lohan appears to have relapsed, he was encouraged by her ownership of the slip-up.

“From what I’ve heard, the tone with which Lindsay talked about the fact that she tested positive was very encouraging,” Lindsey said. “She really recognized that what this is is a relapse into active addiction, and she is very committed to making sure that she gets back on track.”

Over the weekend, Lohan admitted to failing her recent drug test. Hours after reports surfaced Friday that the “Mean Girls” actress didn’t pass her latest test, the troubled starlet conceded she was still struggling with addiction.

“Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result,” Lohan tweeted late Friday night. “Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future. … This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I’m prepared to face the consequences.”

According to the conditions of her post-rehab release, the actress could return to prison for 30 days if Fox confirms that she failed a drug and alcohol test. Lohan served 13 days of a 90-day jail sentence in July over a probation violation from a pair of 2007 DUI cases.

Russell Brand Tweets About Arrest

russell brand

Russell Brand is a lover, not a fighter. The actor/comedian was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday after getting into a physical altercation with a paparazzo who the “Get Him to the Greek” actor claimed was attempting to take an “upskirt” photo of his fiancée, singer Katy Perry.

Brand was interviewed by airport police and taken into custody for suspected battery at the time, according to reports. He broke his silence on the arrest early Monday morning (September 20) when he tweeted, “Thanks for your sweet messages of support. After the tips I picked up in chokey [jail] I’m an infinitely more proficient criminal.”

The alleged victim in the case reportedly tried to make a “private citizen’s arrest” of Brand, 35, after the scuffle in the airport. The British star seems to have retained his sense of humor about the whole incident, though, reacting with his typically witty charm. He posted a Twitpic on Monday morning that appeared to depict a new tattoo of a butterfly on Perry’s arm, along with his portion of the matching Sanskrit tats they both got last year, with the caption, “Mum. Me and ‘chico’ my new homey from the joint. I’ve … joined his ‘club.’ Send condoms.”

TMZ reported that Brand became irate with a photographer at the airport when the snapper reportedly tried to take a picture up Perry’s skirt. Perry appeared to confirm that that’s what happened when shortly after the arrest she tweeted, “If you cross the line & try an put a lens up my dress, my fiancé will do his job & protect me.”

Brand was charged with battery in the incident and released on $20,000 bail. He is due back in court next month on the charge. While the scuffle happened as Brand and Perry were attempting to board a flight to Las Vegas, the “California Gurls” singer clearly made a later flight, since she spent a wild bachelorette weekend with Rihanna in Vegas.
