Russell Brand Tweets About Arrest

Russell Brand is a lover, not a fighter. The actor/comedian was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday after getting into a physical altercation with a paparazzo who the “Get Him to the Greek” actor claimed was attempting to take an “upskirt” photo of his fiancée, singer Katy Perry.

Brand was interviewed by airport police and taken into custody for suspected battery at the time, according to reports. He broke his silence on the arrest early Monday morning (September 20) when he tweeted, “Thanks for your sweet messages of support. After the tips I picked up in chokey [jail] I’m an infinitely more proficient criminal.”

The alleged victim in the case reportedly tried to make a “private citizen’s arrest” of Brand, 35, after the scuffle in the airport. The British star seems to have retained his sense of humor about the whole incident, though, reacting with his typically witty charm. He posted a Twitpic on Monday morning that appeared to depict a new tattoo of a butterfly on Perry’s arm, along with his portion of the matching Sanskrit tats they both got last year, with the caption, “Mum. Me and ‘chico’ my new homey from the joint. I’ve … joined his ‘club.’ Send condoms.”

TMZ reported that Brand became irate with a photographer at the airport when the snapper reportedly tried to take a picture up Perry’s skirt. Perry appeared to confirm that that’s what happened when shortly after the arrest she tweeted, “If you cross the line & try an put a lens up my dress, my fiancé will do his job & protect me.”

Brand was charged with battery in the incident and released on $20,000 bail. He is due back in court next month on the charge. While the scuffle happened as Brand and Perry were attempting to board a flight to Las Vegas, the “California Gurls” singer clearly made a later flight, since she spent a wild bachelorette weekend with Rihanna in Vegas.
