Justin Bieber, Usher Ignite Crowd At KIIS-FM’s Wango Tango

justin bieber
KIIS-FM’s annual Wango Tango festival stormed Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Saturday night. While the energy was massive inside the sold-out arena — with a bill that included Usher, Justin Bieber, Ludacris, Ke$ha,Akon, Adam Lambert and David Guetta — it was equally buzzing backstage with artists and entourages mixing it up.

Maybe they enjoyed themselves a little too much, as Ke$ha joked that she had already made out with glam-man Adam Lambert by the time she made it to our interview. She was also looking forward to corrupting pint-sized popster Bieber. No doubt she was excited to take part in the show, which has become an institution in the music industry and a signal that artists have made it.

“I’m gonna treat it like a big fun summer dance party,” Ke$ha told MTV News. “But I have to say, it’s an honor [to perform] and I’m a little nervous.”

Sharing that excitement was Wango Tango veteran Ludacris, who shouted, “Three-peat! Three-peat!” He continued, “This is my third time doing it, so it feels good to have done it that many times.”

While the artists were amped to participate, KIIS-FM DJ and multitasker Ryan Seacrest shared what was really setting the vibe backstage.

“The vibe is ‘Where is Justin Bieber?’ — that’s the vibe,” Seacrest said. “All the girls that are hanging out here, even the ones that work for us, are like, ‘Have you seen him?’ I’m like, ‘I’m right here.’ They’re like, ‘No, no.Justin Bieber him.’ ”

When Bieber took the stage later in the night, he sent the Staples Center into an uproar. He was welcomed onstage by some people who know a thing or two about screaming crowds: Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed and other cast members of the upcoming “Twilight” film “Eclipse.”

The 16-year-old Canadian sensation started his seven-song set with “Love Me,” an ode to the ’90s greatness of the Cardigans’ “Lovefool.” Bieber, wearing a gray military jacket and a set of dog tags around his neck, followed with “One Less Lonely Girl.” To the envy of every teen girl in the crowd, Justin serenaded a lucky female fan onstage and handed her a bouquet of flowers, giving her a big hug at the end.

Next up in Bieber’s arsenal were “Somebody to Love,” “U Smile” and “One Time.” Then, in one of the most impressive performances of the night, Bieber sang and danced along to Michael Jackson’s classic “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ ” while his dancers took turns doing freestyle dance moves. Backed by a live band, the medley then shifted into Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.” Bieber proclaimed, “Put your rock stars in the air!” and the crowd raised their hands up in the famous devil horns gesture.

During the cover, bandmembers took turns doing solos, ending with Justin on the drums playing a solo of his own. If the crowd hadn’t gotten enough, Justin closed his set with “Baby,” the biggest sing-along of the night. Ludacris quickly followed Bieber with a slew of hits, including “Stand Up,” “What’s Your Fantasy” and “My Chick Bad.” British singer Taio Cruz joined Luda onstage for their current hit “Break Your Heart.”

From one Atlanta artist to another, Usher followed up Luda’s set with a nearly hour-long performance that spanned his entire catalogue. Usher worked hard all night, dancing and sweating through his set. Most impressive, though, was his voice, which wasn’t aided by a backing track.

The Raymond v. Raymond singer tore through early favorites like “Caught Up,” “You Make Me Wanna” and “U Remind Me.” But when Usher went all the way back to “My Way,” things really heated up. He pulled off some suggestive crotch grabs reminiscent of his idol Michael Jackson before getting down on the ground with a mic stand and doing things that would make Justin Bieber blush.

The crowd ate it up. “Love in This Club” and “Lil Freak” made the temperature rise so much that Usher had to rip off his vest, apparently forgetting that his headset mic was wired through it. He had to take a moment to unplug, the only hiccup of the night. No need to worry, the Staples Center was with him. He closed the night with “Yeah!” and current hit “OMG,” while a shower of confetti rained down on the sweaty masses.

Paramore Perform ‘The Only Exception’ On ‘Ellen’

paramore
On Friday (May 14), Paramore took time off from their spring tour to stop by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” where they performed a somber, sweet version of their current single, “The Only Exception.”

The performance — actually taped Thursday — showcased Paramore’s burgeoning quiet side, with frontwoman Hayley Williams singing in hushed tones, her eyes tightly shut, and guitarist Josh Farro strumming the melody on an acoustic and singing backup. The band’s other guitarist, Taylor York, added dreamy flourishes on an electric. Bassist Jeremy Davis and drummer Zac Farro played it similarly tight, laying down a muted, pretty backbeat.

It was a stately, refined performance, perfectly suited for daytime TV, and at the end, the audience cheered wildly, while Williams did a triumphant jig — apparently there were some real-deal Paramore fans in the crowd, too, as Williams finished her little dance and pointed and smiled to a section of the audience — and DeGeneres herself bounded onstage to thank the band, declaring, “I love them!” She then touted Paramore’s Brand New Eyes album and announced that everyone in the studio audience would be receiving a copy.

Paramore will wrap their spring tour Sunday and, after a run of festival gigs in Europe, will return to the States to headline the Honda Civic Tour, which kicks off July 23 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tegan and Sara, New Found Glory and Kadawatha will be joining them on the trek.

Williams can also be heard singing the hook on B.o.B’s smash “Airplanes,”and she’s already planning to shoot her cameo in the video.

Alicia Keys Addresses Racial Strife In ‘Un-thinkable (I’m Ready)’ Video

alicia keys
Racial tension abounds in Alicia Keys’ latest video, “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready),” directed by Jake Nava (Beyoncé, Britney Spears) and co-starring former “One Tree Hill” star Chad Michael Murray.

The clip, which premiered Wednesday (May 12) on BET’s “106 & Park” and Vevo, begins in a small Southern town where Murray and a friend cross the tracks to a primarily African-American enclave. Keys, decked out in ’50s attire, is walking and gabbing away with her girlfriends when she spots her brother angrily confronting Murray, the singer’s love interest.

The pair jaw at each other as Keys runs to the scene, fearing her interracial love connection with Murray is at the root of the conflict. The video then flashes back to when Keys’ character first met Murray’s and forwards through the years, giving various updated and contemporary takes on what their pursuit of each other would look like in each decade.

By the time she reaches the two men, who’ve come to blows, the black-and-white video has turned to color and a present-day Keys is being escorted away by her friends as a bloodied Murray yells to her brother, “What, I’m not good enough?”

The frosty family defiance to Murray warms by the end of the video as he pulls up to their house, proving the resolve in his feelings for Keys.

The song, “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready),” is featured on the singer’s latest album, The Element of Freedom. Drake and his producer Noah “40″ Shebib collaborated on the track with Keys, on which the rapper is featured as a supporting vocalist.

In an interview late last year, the Toronto lyricist said working with Keys “one of the best moments of my career.”

Katy Perry And Russell Brand Planning A ‘Small’ Wedding

katy perry russell brand

Planning a wedding with the hilarious but unpredictable Russell Brand can’t be an easy task, but the “Get Him to the Greek” actor’s fiancée, Katy Perry, already has a few ideas for how to turn the couple’s big day into the perfect day.

In an interview with People, the “I Kissed a Girl” singer revealed that she intends to keep the wedding a small affair. “I always have a ton of people around me, and I think the people that are going to share this moment with us are the people we want to integrate into each other’s lives,” said Perry, who added that she and Brand are planning to host “a big, fat reception for the people who can’t make it” to the ceremony.

Perry, recently named the hottest of the hot on Maxim’s 2010 Hot 100, is already thinking about some of the wedding’s other important details, such as who will design her wedding dress. “We have been kind of talking to [John] Galliano, because that was the first [fashion] show in Paris that we kind of came out as a couple,” Perry said. “So if we did Galliano, it would make it full circle.”

She’s also considering breaking away from her longtime plan to host the wedding in her hometown of Santa Barbara, California. “We don’t necessarily want it to be a drunk fest of people just, you know, one night and then forgetting about it,” Perry said. “We want it to be about the love. So sometimes to be about the love, we have to take them out of their comfort zone.”

Kim Kardashian Hopes Justin Bieber Fans’ Threats Are ‘In Fun’

kim kardashian justin bieber

Last week, after Justin Bieber posted a photo of himself with Kim Kardashian at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and called her his “girlfriend,” Bieber’s die-hard fans took to Twitter to send Kardashian “death threats.” But despite the messages, the 29-year-old reality-TV star says she still has Bieber fever.

“They sent me messages like, ‘If I ever see you in the streets, I will kill you! You took my man!’” Kardashian told UsMagazine.com over the weekend. “I got a few today. One said, ‘I will shank you.’ Not too sure what a ’shank’ is.”

But Kardashian reassured the teen heartthrob’s fans that though she thinks he’s adorable, the flirtation isn’t going anywhere. “Realistically, he’s 16-years old and he’s adorable, but it’s not that serious,” she told the site. “I still have Bieber fever. It’s not his fault that all the Bieber fans are after me. They’re all young, so I’m hoping that it’s all just in fun and that they seriously don’t mean it.”

And since her split with NFL star Reggie Bush, Kim seems to be enjoying this kind of playful speculation more than real scrutiny of her love life. Asked if she was interested in anyone else, she responded, “I just have to stick with Justin. I have no other eyes for anyone at the moment. I’m faithful in my crush.”

Katy Perry Tops Maxim Hot 100

katy perry

Many beautiful women made Maxim’s 2010 Hot 100, but only one was deemed the hottest of the hot: Katy Perry.

Why Perry? “It’s that feeling you get when you suddenly realize that the smartest, funniest, coolest girl you know also happens to the best looking and a pretty good skateboarder too,” Joe Levy, Maxim editor in chief, explained to ABC News. “All of a sudden, your crush goes supernova, and this is Katy’s supernova moment.”

Perry, who just released her new single, ”California Gurls,” made the list alongside Sports Illustrated cover model Brooklyn Decker (#2), “Avatar” actress Zoe Saldana (#3), “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively (#4) and “Jonah Hex” leading lady Megan Fox (#5).

“[Megan is] a sex symbol for the ages,” Levy said. “Megan’s sultry looks hit every red-blooded guy right in the gut.”

But it seems that the other ladies don’t have Perry’s unique appeal, Levy said. “[She's] a triple — no, quadruple — kind of hot,” Levy told Us Weekly.

Perry isn’t the only pop star on this year’s list: Taylor Swift (#31), Christina Aguilera (#18), Britney Spears (#54) and Nicole Scherzinger (#24) also made the cut.

A number of Hollywood’s hottest actresses also made the cut this year.Last year’s #1, Olivia Wilde, fell to #20 this year. She’s joined by Angelina Jolie at #38, Emma Roberts at #78 and “The Hills” star Kristin Cavallari at #76.

Other notables on the list include “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi (#93), “True Blood” star Anna Paquin (#84), actress Milla Jovovich (#21) and supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio (#63).

Lady Gaga Fans Petition ‘American Idol’ To Air Unedited ‘Alejandro’ Performance

lady gaga

One day after “American Idol” editors aired Lady Gaga’s performance of “Alejandro” with nearly two minutes snipped out of it, neither Gaga herself, nor her legion of Little Monsters, seemed to be willing to forgive or forget.

On Thursday, Gaga took to her Twitter account to address the issue, writing, “Fox POORLY + AMATEURLY edited + cut my performance/musical arrangement on Idol,” and posting a link to what she called the “real version.”

That version — which blogger Perez Hilton proudly displayed on his Web site — features an extended version of “Bad Romance” in the intro, a few dance moves that “Idol” possibly deemed too hot for broadcast and extra instrumentation in the breakdown of “Alejandro.” A few hours after Gaga posted her message, Hilton responded and included a link to a fan-sponsored petition, which urged “Idol” producers to re-air the unedited version of her performance … or at least to apologize to Gaga for making the cuts.

The petition — started by the “Little Monsters of the World” — states that Gaga’s performance of “Alejandro” was art, and editing it was an act on par with slashing up a Picasso.

“Gaga gives performance art to the Pop World — emphasis on the word ‘art,’ ” the petition reads. “Would you take a $250,000 painting, cut it in pieces, and put it together to better fit your wall? No. Thus, you should not take the art of this artist and do the same.”

The petition goes on to echo Gaga’s complaint about the “amateurly” made cuts. “They cropped out key transitions and moments of the piece (in about four spots total), leaving only an imitation of the original creation,” it says. “They owe credit to Lady Gaga’s appearance. Thus, they owe her the right to showing the world the art piece she worked very hard on.”

The organizers of the petition plan to collect 10,000 signatures from Gaga fans, which they hope will persuade “Idol” producers to re-air the full “Alejandro” performance. Or, at the very least, apologize to her. So far, more than 2,900 Little Monsters have signed on.

MTV News’ e-mails to a spokesperson for 19 Entertainment — the company that produces “American Idol” — about the “Alejandro” performance were not responded to by press time.

Lil Wayne Posts Full Mother’s Day Tribute From Prison

lil wayne

Lil Wayne posted a letter to his mother and the mothers of his four children online Friday (May 7), after a preview appeared earlier in the week, writing that the bond between matriarch and offspring is “the most beautiful thing God created.”

The Mother’s Day tribute, titled “A Mother’s Worth,” was written for the rapper’s fan site, WeezyThankxYou.com, which he launched last month to keep his followers up to date on his life as he serves his one-year prison sentence.

“It’s not many words in the world more powerful than ‘mother,’ ” Wayne wrote in the third post he’s issued since his incarceration began. “Those six letters can bring joy, just like they bring pain.”

The rapper explained that for him Mother’s Day is every day, yet he understands the significance of having a designated holiday.

“To all the mothers that read this letter, I hope this day allows you to feel the love and respect you so rightfully deserve,” he said. “You are the role models, not me.”

Later in the letter, the rapper’s thoughts became more personal as he touched on the relationships with the women who have given birth to his children, including actress Lauren London; singer Nivea; his ex-wife, reality-TV star Toya Carter; and a college student Wayne was previously dating.

In a time period spanning just over 12 months, from late 2008 to the end of 2009, Wayne had three children born to him, while his daughter Reginae was born when he was just 15. The Cash Money Records star maintains a cordial relationship with each of his children’s mothers and wrote of his appreciation for them.

“To the mothers of my beautiful children, there remains nothing but love, adoration and respect coming from my heart,” he said. “Even with the mistakes I’ve made in my life, you give me reason to smile in a place where they attempt to break your spirit each day the sun rises. I love my babies with all my heart. And the fact you brought them into this world only gives me more and more motivation to write these words.”

To his own mother, Cita Carter, Weezy opened up about his absence and his sorrow for not being able to spend time with her on the holiday.

“You are my heart and you are my soul,” he wrote. “Please don’t ever forget that. We’ve been through everything one could possibly imagine together. With each obstacle that has come our way, you have handled it with the grace and dignity I can only hope to mimic. Even writing this, it’s tough to come to grips with the fact I cannot spend this special day with you. Like you always preached, a man must accept his own actions — good and bad — and learn from them. And that’s what I’m doing. Mom, I love you more than you will ever know.”

Like his last letter, Wayne ended his message by thanking several of his fans by name for writing to him and sharing their support.

Katy Perry Debuts New Single ‘California Gurls’

katy perry

With a single tweet, Katy Perry entered the summer-jam sweepstakes, unveiling her brand-new single, “California Gurls,” to the masses. And, oh, don’t think she didn’t know it.

“SUMMER STARTS NOW!,” Perry shouted … er … wrote on her Twitter page. “WHO’S READY TO HEAR MY SINGLE ‘CALIFORNIA GURLS’ ?”

She then posted a link to her website, which now bears the slogan “Summer Starts Now!” and features a promotional image of a blue-haired Perry reclining on the beach in a bejeweled bikini. Although you can hear “California Gurls” on the site, within minutes of Perry announcing the track, it was practically everywhere on the Net, including Perez Hilton’s site and Ryan Seacrest’s blog.

Perry wasn’t exaggerating when she said the summer starts now, either. “Gurls” is a big, bright, decidedly beach-friendly pop tune, full of sunshiney synthesizers, starry, electronic whooshes and loose, funky, wah-wah guitar flourishes. As if all that weren’t enough to guarantee it instant summer-jam success, well, then wait until you hear the positively massive chorus, on which Perry sings about Daisy Dukes-wearing California gurls with “sun-kissed skin so hot [it'll] melt your popsicle.” Oh, and Snoop Dogg also shows up midway through to contribute a verse dedicated to the “toned, tanned, fit and ready” Cali girls he loves.

In short: Welcome to your favorite sun-tanning song of 2010.

Co-written by Perry and hitmakers Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Benny Blanco, “Gurls” will hit radio May 25. The tune’s debut comes just one day after snippets of it — and two other songs, “E.T.” and “In Between” — leaked online. There’s still no word on what Perry is planning to call the follow-up to her breakthrough One of the Boys album or when it will hit stores.

Justin Bieber Fans Send Kim Kardashian ‘Death Threats’

kim kardashian

Justin Bieber has not been shy about his desire to make reality star Kim Kardashian his girlfriend. So, when the two met up at the White House Correspondents’ dinner in Washington, D.C., over the weekend, he made sure to get a picture with her. He later posted the picture on his Twitter page and called her his “girlfriend.”

Some Bieber fans, however, weren’t at all pleased with the situation and let Kardashian know as much. On Tuesday, the reality star tweeted, “Seriously Biebs! @JustinBieber I’m getting death threats from your fans! This is unBeliebable!!!” Bieber responded with a tweet to his fans saying, “Ladies calm down. @kimkardashian is a friend. a very sexy friend but a friend. no need 4 threats. Let’s all be friends and hang out often.”

Just days before, Kardashian tweeted that she is the latest person to catch Bieber Fever, writing, “I officially have Bieber Fever!!! … Best time in DC. Heading home soon!”

It seems Bieber had an equally good time chilling with her, even if the whole Kardashian encounter left his fans with a bad taste in their mouths. “Obama had jokes!!! Met some really great people and sat with Queen Latifah. She is an awesome person,” he wrote. “The dinner tonight with the president was fun. I’m super jet legged … Great night in DC … but this jet lag from the last 2 weeks of travel is bad. sleepy but trying to watch this fight. Money is on Mayweather.”

Bieber’s fans have earned a reputation for being incredibly loyal. In fact, several appearances over the last several months were canceled due to their over-enthusiasm for the pop star. Late last month, an appearance in Australia was canceled after a crowd stampede. And prior to that, fans in Paris and Long Island got so out of hand that appearances there also had to be canceled.

Miley Cyrus Breaks Free In ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ Video

miley cyrus

The title track from her newest album, Can’t Be Tamed, debuted Friday, and on Tuesday night (May 4), E! News premiered the song’s video. In the clip, Miley is trapped in a cage while dressed up like a bird, trashing the museum she’s contained in and newly sexualized now that she’s Disney-free.

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest that ran after the video’s debut, Cyrus said the video wasn’t about her new attitude, but about putting a story to the rebellious track. A museum curator introduces “a creature so rare it was believed to be extinct” to a crowd of posh attendees, announcing that “in captivity for the first time, the rarest creature on Earth, Avis Cyrus.”

Cue the reveal of Cyrus in a giant cage, dressed in a skimpy black outfit replete with feathers and CGI wings. Someone snaps a photo, and she is startled and shields herself with the wings, causing the guests to become uncomfortable. Then the music starts thumping, and Cyrus and her dancers make their way out of the cage, shattering exhibits as they go. After rolling around in peacock feathers and getting up close and personal with some of her dancers, the video ends with Cyrus back in her cage with the museum empty and trashed.

“The reason I loved doing this video is because I wanted it to be something different for a female artist,” Cyrus explained to Seacrest. “It is a sexy video, and you can’t really take that away from it, but it’s not the premise.”

She said her friends and fans have been waiting for her to make a move to the next incarnation of Miley Cyrus for a while, and she thinks this is something they will be proud of. Her “Hannah Montana” fans have grown up with her, she said, and this is the first step for all of them toward “growing up.” Her mother, Tish, was on set with her during the video shoot, though she did say she made boyfriend Liam Hemsworth leave the set after 20 minutes so he wouldn’t get distracted by all the “hot girl dancers” also on set.

Beyonce Plays Suffering Housewife In ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ Video

beyonce

Beyoncé may have killed off Sasha Fierce, but it looks like she’s introducing a new alter ego in her latest video, “Why Don’t You Love Me,” which premiered Tuesday (May 4) via her Vimeo page.

In a nod to classic American television, the clip opens with a narrator — in an advertising-styled voice-over — introducing B, “starring as B.B. Homemaker.”

Beyoncé then does her best impersonation of Betty Draper, the embattled wife in “Mad Men,” who endured the philandering ways of her husband, Don Draper.

“Why don’t you need me,” B croons throughout, smoking cigarettes, drinking martinis and crying the mascara down her face. “When I make it so damn easy to need me.”

The ’50s-styled video finds Beyoncé suffering through a number of household chores, including cleaning the kitchen, dusting (her Grammy Awards, no less), and watering the plants, all with no sign of her man.

The video was co-directed by Melina Matsoukas (Eve, Rihanna, Ne-Yo) and Beyoncé.

“Why Don’t You Love Me” is the ninth video overall from Beyoncé’s 2008 album I Am…Sasha Fierce, following “If I Were a Boy,” “Diva” and “Sweet Dreams,” among others. It’s also her first clip since collaborating on back-to-back visuals with Lady Gaga: her own “Video Phone” and Gaga’s “Telephone.”

Earlier this year, in an interview with Allure magazine, Beyoncé surprised her fans when she proclaimed that she’d killed off her Sasha Fierce character.

“I don’t need Sasha Fierce anymore, because I’ve grown and now I’m able to merge the two,” she explained to the magazine.

It remains to be seen if B.B. Homemaker makes it past the “Why Don’t You Love Me” video.

‘Glee’ Creator Is ‘Entertaining’ Idea Of Britney Spears-Themed Episode

britney spears

With “Glee” already paying homage to pop stars like Lady Gaga and Madonna, it seems like a natural fit for them to complete the blond pop-star trifecta with an episode dedicated to the one and only Britney Spears next season.

Last week, Spears’ manager, Adam Leber, suggested the idea via Twitter, and now show creator Ryan Murphy has admitted that he’s thinking about doing an episode entirely dedicated to the pop princess. “I’m interested in the Britney Spears idea. I’ve always loved her,” he told EW.com. “I’m entertaining it. I think young kids would like that.”

In the meantime, Murphy has a slightly more controversial blonde in mind for a musical homage on the hit Fox show. “I actually ran into Courtney Love the other day and talked to he,” he said. “She’s interested. I would love to have the kids do a Courtney Love episode one day.”

Not to leave the male icons out of the equation, Murphy said he’s also considering episodes dedicated to Billy Joel and Led Zeppelin. “The key is the songs in the catalog have to have a certain degree of theatricality,” he explained.

The Gaga episode is set to air later this season, and Madonna has shared how much she loved the “Power of Madonna” episode that aired two weeks ago. Murphy has said the show is considering a second episode devoted to the Material Girl’s songs. “[Madonna's] a smart cookie. I mean, that introduced her music to an entire new generation.”

Lady Gaga Sheds ‘So Many Tears’ Over New Tribute Video

lady gaga

“I’ve never cried so hard in 24 years, from pure joy and unconditional love,” she wrote of the YouTube video, conceived and edited by Gaga superfan Ryan James Yezak. “Tears still streaming.”

Well, on Monday (April 26) she turned on the waterworks yet again, this time for a fan-made video called “Project Gaga 2010,” which featured her minions — the so-called “Little Monsters” — thanking Gaga “for giving us a voice.”

“So many tears, [you] make me whole Little Monsters,” Gaga tweeted. “Without [you], I would have no voice. Thank you.”

The clip, posted on Sunday, is the largest fan-made Gaga tribute video to date, featuring 268 Little Monsters from around the world (the U.S., U.K., Germany, New Zealand, Greece, Brazil and Italy, to name just a few spots) decked out in their Gaga-iest getups, holding up personalized signs thanking Gaga for inspiring them, providing them with the courage to be unique and, most of all, giving them a voice.

“We have come here today to thank you, Mother Monster, for giving all of us a voice,” a voice-over at the beginning of the video states. “We thank you and salute you … for you have made us all free bitches, baby. Hail the Queen of Monsters.”

So far, the video has been viewed more than 35,000 times and early Monday morning the creators of the clip took to their Twitter account to thank Gaga once again — and share the love with the Little Monsters who helped make the project possible in the first place.

“We did this video all together, like true monsters do,” they wrote. “We must have all had an amazing Mother Monster, Lady Gaga.”

HOLLYWOOD — Tinseltown’s fashion elite stepped into the spotlight Thursday night at Us Weekly’s Hot Hollywood party to celebrate the style issue’s release. The red carpet was brimming with stars and sass, but even the most fashionable celebs admitted to making regrettable choices that magazines like Us have captured.

“I’ve definitely had some outfits like, ‘What was I thinking?’” Nicole Scherzinger cringed while sharing the carpet with “Dancing With the Stars” dancers Mark Ballas and Damian Whitewood. “It sucks when they compare you [with someone in the same outfit] and you wore it not as well. That’s kind of sad times for me.”

“Oh my god, I’ve had some pretty embarrassing moments,” said “Twilight” star Nikki Reed, who was named a “Colorful Coquette” by the magazine. “There was a time I wore a dress, and I didn’t realize it was see-through until it was nighttime and there were big camera flashes. That was pretty brutal.”

Some stars blamed circumstances beyond their control for the times they’ve been caught by the fashion police and crowned with a “worst dressed” title.

“I don’t live in Hollywood, so I do a lot of changing in my car,” explained new PETA campaigner Stephanie Pratt, whose beachside residence has forced her to convert her car to a mobile closet. “I find myself in a lot of inside-out clothes. That’s probably the worst it gets. When I’m wearing something, like, from Zara, with long tags hanging down, that’s bad.”

Ciara recalled one disaster that had nothing to do with her clothing. “I left the house one time and my outfit was really, really cute,” she said. “I didn’t do my own makeup. I was trying a new makeup artist that night, and my face looked like a pumpkin. I was really red. Some photos look better than others because the light kind of saved my life.”

Us‘ “In-Vogue Vocalist” Katharine McPhee explained that finding a red-hot look doesn’t come easy to the fresh meat of the industry. “There are tons of embarrassing moments,” she said. “I hope they don’t do any presentations tonight and refer back to some photos of when I wasn’t so stylish. There are quite a few moments when you get thrust into the spotlight, and you’re just new to everything. One night, you’re on your own and you think you can do it, but you’re wrong, you can’t do it.”

Christina Aguilera On Lady Gaga Comparisons: ‘My Work Speaks For Itself’

christina aguilera

Christina Aguilera plans to stop by “American Idol” in May to give fans a taste of her upcoming album Bionic, but some who have heard the first single “Not Myself Tonight” have compared the new Aguilera sound to Lady Gaga.

“It just comes with the territory. That, in particular, is not even worth wasting the breath to comment on,” she told the Bert Show on Q100 in Atlanta Tuesday morning (April 20). “I’ve been around for over a decade and I think my work speaks for myself. [When I was younger] I would have engaged, been a little upset [about the comparisons]. There’s a bigger picture out there. I’ve got my son, my family, my work.”

In another interview with Atlanta’s Star 94 FM on Tuesday she added, “No rip-offs, we’re all inspired by different things. I was inspired … by artists that came before me. … You know what I love about the new breed of newcomers is that they’re risk takers. They’re doing things that aren’t so safe. … I always had the guts and passion to do things like that. … I’m happy to see that people have come full-circle and are now accepting it and are into it and these girls have the guts to do it.”

It’s not the first time people have compared the two blond pop stars. In 2008, Aguilera addressed the comparisons, revealing that she didn’t even know who Lady Gaga. “You know, that’s funny that you mention that. This person [Lady Gaga] was just brought to my attention not too long ago,” she told the L.A. Times in November 2008. “I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure. I really don’t spend any time on the Internet, so I guess I live a little under a rock in that respect.”

While Lady Gaga has been touring across the globe and gearing up to shoot a video for her single “Alejandro,” she’s also found time to record tracks for her next album. Her label boss, Akon, has already heard some of the Fame Monster follow-up, and he says it is out of this world.

“She records while she’s on the road,” Akon told Vibe.com. “I’m flying out to Europe to work on some new records with her. Gaga’s just like me. She has a tour bus with a studio in it. Some of the songs I’ve heard are going to be crazy. She’s getting bigger and better.”

Although a release date, title and other details have yet to be revealed, Akon knows that she’s working hard and doesn’t need much advice from him.

“All I’m doing at the end of the day is listening to the tracks Gaga has written and approving them for her album. She has producers that she works with outside of myself and they are coming up with some incredible records,” he explained. “But the beauty of it is she knows exactly what she wants. So it just makes it easier for me.”

Frequent Gaga collaborator RedOne told MTV News that he and the singer still have a lot of tricks up their sleeves but wouldn’t be specific. “That I don’t want to say, because you always want to shock people,” he said. “And you don’t want to let people know, so that when they hear it, [they go], ‘Oh my God.’ ”

And after winning a pair of Grammys with Gaga this year, RedOne promised more successes to come. “We’re just gonna rock again,” he said. “When me and Gaga get together, it’s crazy. It’s unbelievable.”

Rihanna Hospitalized In Switzerland

rihanna

In the midst of her 27-date European tour, Rihanna suffered an injured rib that required a brief trip to an emergency room in Switzerland.

The injury took place during Monday’s show in Zurich, according to People. Following the performance, Rihanna was taken to a private clinic.

“[She] had an injured rib and went to have it looked at to be sure it was nothing serious, and it wasn’t,” the 22-year-old singer’s rep said.

Rihanna continued on with the tour, performing Tuesday night in Lyon, France, and then heading to Marseille for Wednesday’s (April 21) concert. From there, her Last Girl on Earth Tour will weave through Western Europe, hitting countries like Germany and Luxembourg, before jumping over to the U.K. for 13 dates. The European leg of the tour will wrap up June 5 in Madrid.

“All is OK and the tour is going great,” her rep said.

The Last Girl on Earth Tour will pick back up in the U.S. on July 2 when Rihanna performs in Seattle. That show will kick off a 27-date North American run, which heads north to Canada and then down through Western states like California and Arizona. The Eastern dates will hit cities such as Miami, Boston and New York. The tour finishes up in Chicago on August 25.

Ke$ha will join Rihanna on the tour; Nicki Minaj was set to tour with the two women as well, but pulled out earlier this month.

“I’m just so excited to be on the same stage as Rihanna,” Ke$ha told us recently. “She’s obviously an incredible performer, singer, woman. So that tour’s going to be so much fun.”

Lady Gaga Tweets About Upcoming ‘American Idol’ Appearance

lady gaga

This season of “American Idol” has featured a variety of guest performers, from Rihanna and Miley Cyrus to, most recently, Adam Lambert, but a potential “Idol” appearance from Lady Gaga really has fans buzzing. On Friday, the singer took to her Twitter to address the rumors.

“See you on American Idol. MAY 5th, Little Monsters,” she said in a tweet that was accompanied by a YouTube video, which has since been taken down due to copyright claims.

A press time, reps for “Idol” haven’t responded to MTV News’ request for comment on the possible appearance.

If she is, indeed, coming on the show May 5, it wouldn’t be the first time Gaga graced the “Idol” stage. Last April, the singer put on a show-stopping performance of “Poker Face.” No word on what song she might perform, but fans are currently speculating she’ll perform her third single “Alejandro” from her Fame Monster EP.

Gaga’s music will be heading to Fox prime time regardless as “Glee” has dedicated an upcoming episode to the singer. The stars of “Glee” say Gaga’s music and the show go hand in hand.

“Her music and her influence on pop music right now, it’s so well expressed by ‘Glee,’ ” actor Cory Monteith told MTV News. “The way that that episode goes with Lady Gaga’s music is amazing.”

Adam Lambert Promises ‘Theatrical’ Glam Nation Tour, Talks Next Single

adam lambert

If you were a fan of Adam Lambert’s laser-enhanced performance of “Whataya Want From Me” on last week’s “American Idol,” well, you’re in luck. Because on his upcoming Glam Nation Tour — which, according to his official website, now has a handful of actual dates — he’s definitely going to be breaking out the big (laser) guns once again.

“I hope to use some special-effects lighting like that, sure,” Lambert told MTV News on the red carpet of the GLAAD Media Awards this past Saturday. “The Glam Nation Tour is going to be very theatrical. People won’t be let down in the glam department; it’ll definitely be something to look at as well as listen to.”

And when the Glam Nation Tour kicks off (the first date is tentatively June 4 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania), Lambert will also have a brand-new single to promote: the strutting and sparkly “If I Had You,” which he’s planning to shoot a video for next month. The song, written by the Swedish hitmaking team of Max Martin and Shellback, is a favorite of Lambert’s, not just because of its top-flight pedigree, but because of the message it contains.

“It’s a great song — really fun, upbeat, joyful,” Lambert said. “And the message in the song is really exciting, because basically what it’s saying is no matter what color your skin is, no matter what religion you are, no matter what your sexuality is, no matter what your age is, we can all party together. We can all find common love. And all this other stuff — money, success, fortune, fashion, glam — it’s all great, but it doesn’t mean anything if you’re not connecting. … I love it.”

Zac Efron To Star In Drug Thriller ‘Snabba Cash’

zac efron

Zac Efron is doing his best to graduate to more grown-up fare. The “High School Musical” star will star in and produce the crime thriller “Snabba Cash,” an adaptation of the 2006 novel by Swedish author Jens Lapidus. The book was already made into a film in Sweden released this January.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reports that “Snabba Cash,” which translates to “easy money” in English, was the subject of a Hollywood bidding war after director Daniel Espinosa’s adaptation generated interest at the Berlin Film Festival. Universal, Summit, Paramount, Fox, the Weinstein Company and Mandate were all among those studios that bid, but Warner Bros. won out in the end.

The plot follows three linked storylines: A young man struggling to maintain his lifestyle turns to the drug trade; a convict who took the blame on a drug deal involving the Serbian mafia; and an enforcer for the same mafia who just wants to get out and live a quiet life with his daughter. The three come together in the hopes of making a quick buck … but, of course, nothing is that simple.

“Snabba Cash” is Efron’s latest bid to step outside his roots as a teen heartthrob and be recognized as a serious actor. Last year, he starred in Richard Linklater’s period drama “Me and Orson Welles,” a performance for which he received favorable reviews. He’ll star next in the Burr Steers-directed adaptation of “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud,” which hits theaters in October, and is also booked for the lead role in the 2011 live-action adaptation of “Johnny Quest.”

Daniel Radcliffe Returning To Broadway With ‘How To Succeed’

daniel radcliffe

It seems that Broadway is just wild about Harry — again.

Daniel Radcliffe is heading back to the Great White Way with a revival of the 1961 Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” following in the footsteps of his headline-generating run in “Equus.” Tony winner Rob Ashford, who is currently overseeing “Promises, Promises” on Broadway, is scheduled to direct and choreograph “How to Succeed.”

Radcliffe, who beat out hundreds at age 11 to land the coveted role of Harry Potter, has starred in six massively successful films as the boy wizard; the finale of the series, two movies based on J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” are scheduled to hit theaters later this year and then in 2011. In the non-”Potter” territory, however, only 2007’s “December Boys” managed to register a pulse at the box office, and Radcliffe has chosen to keep his most high-profile extracurricular activities limited to the stage.

Based on Sheperd Mead’s 1952 book, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” opened on Broadway in 1961 and a revival ran in 1995 starring Matthew Broderick and Megan Mullally. A 1967 film adaptation starred much of the original cast re-creating their roles. The play tells the tale of J. Pierrepont Finch, a young window washer who soars through the ranks at New York’s World Wide Wickets Company — until his own attempts at coming up with a “brilliant idea” threaten to topple his house of cards.

Although “Equus” certainly showed some unexpected sides of Radcliffe, “How to Succeed” has Finch singing and dancing throughout. The move shouldn’t come as a surprise for Radcliffe’s loyal fans, however, as he did a public reading of the play before the new year and told us recently that he’d welcome a return to Broadway. “How to Succeed” is scheduled to open in spring 2011.

Justin Bieber Is A ‘Real Inspiration,’ ‘Idol Gives Back’ Producer Says

justin bieber

After a one-year break, “Idol Gives Back” is set to return to the small screen with an assist from co-host Queen Latifah and performances by Justin Bieber, Elton John, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, the Black Eyed Peas and others. Most performances will be staged live, but Bieber recorded his last month, a decision “American Idol” producers made because they felt his connection to youth culture could spur giving.

“I looked at that night as a good night for him to be on, because he’s absolutely phenomenal, and he’s young and he’s a real inspiration for [the] young generation, so it was a really good fit for him to be in that special episode,” explained exec producer Cécile Frot-Coutaz in a conference call of the decision to pre-tape his performance rather than air it during an earlier live show.

“Idol Gives Back” will air as part of Wednesday’s elimination show. The charity effort has raised $140 million in the two seasons that “Idol” producers have staged the event. “Idol Gives Back” took a year off in 2009, following the widespread fiscal crisis gripping the nation. With the country still dealing with a struggling economy, producers are gearing up for what Frot-Coutaz termed a “low-key” fundraiser, one that welcomes donations of any dollar amount but which also has some big-ticket items. Fans can bid online for the opportunity to meet Simon Cowell, win a pair of autographed sneakers from Ellen DeGeneres and receive a private voice lesson with judges Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi. Proceeds will do to charities like Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation.

Bieber, John, Underwood and the rest of the guests — most of whom will perform live — will sing inspirational songs from their own catalogs, as well as covers from other artists. Frot-Coutaz also promised one surprise appearance from a yet unannounced artists. Though producers recognize that the economy is still in a difficult situation, they hope the combination of high-profile performers and an elimination show will raise viewership and stimulate donations.

“We’re going into this third ‘Idol Gives Back’ with a slightly different approach,” she said. “We did incredibly well both times, we raised a lot of money, and we’re hoping, obviously, that we do incredibly well this time as well. But we’re very aware that the circumstances are very different than when we first started doing it. … Whatever people will donate will be great.”

Miranda Cosgrove Urges The ‘Importance’ Of After-School Programs

miranda cosgrove

Miranda Cosgrove already has a pretty sweet after-school program to keep her busy: her hit Nickelodeon series “iCarly.” But the teen star is doing her part to help ensure that other kids have something positive to get into when the last bell rings. The actress teamed up with Quaker Oats for Quaker Chewy Afterschool Rocks, a campaign co-sponsored by the nonprofit Afterschool Alliance.

The aim of the partnership is to extend access to affordable, quality after-school programs to students across the country. Cosgrove thinks the cause is vital. “It’s really cool,” she told MTV News. “They’re bringing after-school programming back to schools.”

In March, Cosgrove hung out with a group of students at PS 72 in Harlem, New York. “I got to meet all the kids, and they did a choreographed dance,” said Cosgrove, who was treated to a performance by the 90’s Babies dance troupe, an offshoot of the Harlem RBI sports-based educational program.

But Cosgrove is not just a spokesperson. The actress — whose album Sparks Fly is due later this month — will be performing a private concert for about 300 guests. Fans can enter to win a ticket through the Chewy Afterschool Rocks sweepstakes.

“I just think that after-school programs are really important,” Cosgrove said. “I remember when I was little, my big thing was I was on a baseball team. I remember it as one of my favorite memories. I went out with my dad and got a whole baseball outfit. And I made up a team name. We called ourselves the Rose Buds.”

Eminem Announces New Album Recovery For June 22

eminem

When Eminem says “soon,” he means it. On Wednesday morning (April 14), Em tweeted that there was no Relapse 2, and he promised last month that big news was coming soon. Well, the MC has already announced a new album and release date.

“I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year,” Eminem said in a statement. “But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title.”

The new album — which features production from DJ Khalil, Just Blaze, Jim Jonsin and Boi-1da, among others — will drop June 22.

Last week, Blaze told MTV News that he’d been working on new songs for Eminem, saying of the album: “It’s getting there, but we still got a lot of work.” Though he was sworn to secrecy, Blaze did reveal that “a lot of good music is being made. … He’s really back spitting. The wordplay is crazy, the metaphors are crazy. He’s really back on his game. He had his ups, he had his downs, he’s back way, way, way up. This is definitely going to be up there with the best of his albums, for sure, for sure. The fact that he’s branched out working with a lot of different people now, collaborating in a lot of different ways that he never has before, I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people.”

Last year, Em told fans Relapse 2 was “extremely close to being finished. It just depends on how many songs I wanna put on it.”

The project was pushed back until this year, and he took to Twitter on Wednesday to tell the world he had changed his mind. “There is no Relapse 2,” he wrote. It was the first tweet from the rapper since March 29, when he promised, “Don’t worry. Some big news is coming. Soon.”

Justin Bieber Doesn’t ‘Limit’ Himself When It Comes To Love

justin bieber

While Justin Bieber hasn’t been shy about his crush on Beyoncé, when it comes to falling in love, he said he doesn’t need to date a celebrity. When he meets the right girl, he’ll know it.

“Whoever I fall in love with, you can be anybody,” Bieber told MTV News. “I don’t limit myself.”

Just because Bieber has a packed schedule doesn’t mean he can’t make time for love. “It would just depend,” he said. “I think right now, I’m really busy, but anything can happen. I mean, I wouldn’t mind it.”

So does Bieber have a dream girl? Actually, he has three: “If I can pick any girl … I’m gonna take Meagan Good. I’m gonna take Kim Kardashian. And Beyoncé.”

But Bieber’s first love is his fans. “They make me a trending topic on Twitter every day,” the pop star marveled of his devoted fanbase. “It’s pretty incredible. My fans have made me a trending topic every day. I don’t think there’s been a day in the past month that I haven’t. So it’s pretty incredible.

“I love Twitter,” Bieber added. He finds tweeting the perfect way to share his comings and goings and to communicate directly with a few lucky girls whenever possible. “For sure I use it for being able to interact with my fans as well as promote stuff.”

Was Adam Lambert A Good ‘American Idol’ Mentor? Experts Weigh In

adam lambert

Adam Lambert has never been shy about expressing his opinions, but on Tuesday night, the season-eight “American Idol” runner-up provided some of the most candid and spot-on advice of any mentor in the show’s history.

While previous mentors have typically offered sweet nothings, praise and light advice to the contestants, like another season-nine guide, Usher, Lambert dug in and really encouraged the singers to push the envelope and display their personalities, providing concrete suggestions for molding their performances.

He was unafraid to criticize their choices — counseling Andrew to punch up his version of “Hound Dog” and loosen up a bit and suggesting to Siobhan Magnus that her arrangement of “Suspicious Minds” needed to be sped up a bit to really pop — and praise them when they made the right ones. The results didn’t always translate into great performances, but Lambert’s efforts drew praise from no less an expert than outgoing “Idol” musical director Rickey Minor.

“From the first day I met Adam in Hollywood Week — and he stood out right then — I’ve always thought he was someone to listen to,” Minor told MTV News on Wednesday, the day after it was announced he’d be leaving “Idol” at the end of this season for “The Tonight Show.” “This is a visual art as well, and I think he did really well, because he’s been in the competition and he’s in their age range. It’s not like some star who’s been around for 30 years saying, ‘You need to do this.’ Adam can say he was on the show last year, and he knows how it feels. It was a great idea to have him on.”

Minor said Lambert’s honesty and truthfulness with the contestants, both good and bad, was refreshing. “He was the one who told them, ‘No one told me I’d be working 10 times as hard [once I left the show],’ ” Minor said. “His thing was to challenge them, and I have a lot of respect for him having already worked with him. And now that he’s come in and talked to these kids, it’s even bigger.”

Close “Idol” watcher MJ Santilli, who runs MJsBigBlog.com, said she would have preferred that an “Idol” elder like Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson be the first former contestant to return as a mentor. “But having said that, I think Adam did a fine job,” she said. “He’s got something many of this year’s contestants lack: the ability to craft a performance that’s vocally, visually and emotionally stunning.”

With that unique combination and his no-nonsense attitude, Santilli said Lambert’s suggestions to the nine finalists was refreshing. “Coming from that perspective, Adam was perfect,” she said. “He gave the kids good advice on how to make their performances more exciting. Adam’s an articulate guy who expresses himself well. He was honest and constructive.”

In fact, on a night when the four panelists often agreed in the same bland way or disagreed on minor points, Santilli said Simon, Kara, Ellen and Randy “might want to take a few pointers from [Adam].”

Green Day’s American Idiot Broadway Cast Recording: Listen Now On The Leak

green day

Did you ever listen to Green Day’s American Idiot and think to yourself, “I wish this could sound bigger“?

Well, you’re in luck. Because streaming right now on MTV’s The Leak, is American Idiot: The Original Broadway Cast Recording, and it’s pretty massive. The album — featuring the musical’s stars John Gallagher Jr., Michael Esper, Stark Sands, Tony Vincent, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Mary Faber and Christina Sajous singing music orchestrated by Tom Kitt — comes out on April 20.

Loaded with full choirs, classically trained vocalists singing for the rafters and guitars, bass and drums that sound like they’ve been retrofitted with rocket boosters for the band’s trip to the Great White Way, this version of American Idiot is a super-charged spring through the band’s album (and, its follow-up, 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown), the kind of thing that no doubt sounds amazing rattling around in the eaves and proscenium arches.

The first half of the album — featuring songs like “American Idiot,” the “Jesus of Suburbia” suite and a fiery “St. Jimmy” — crackles with sonic energy and bursts with vocal pyrotechnics. It makes you realize that Green Day probably should’ve turned this thing into a musical a long time ago. But, to the composers’ credit, they also realized that every great stage show needs its share of slower moments, too, and the middle portion of the album is full of them. A bittersweet “Give Me Novocain” starts soft and tender, with swaying, gently strummed acoustics. “Last of the American Girls” is given a pretty, baroque string intro, and “Last Night on Earth” is downright dour, with a mournful cello bellowing beneath an ominous guitar line.

It goes to show you that “massive” has many different meanings. Even the quieter moments carry an enormous amount of emotional heft. Of course, things wrap up with more of the epic, big-sounding stuff (the “Homecoming” suite, the full-cast version of “Whatsername” and the album-closing ballad “When It’s Time”), because you’ve got to send the audience home happy.

But if the Broadway recording proves anything, it’s that Green Day songs are packed with more emotional wallop than you probably think, and they lend themselves nicely to the big sound of the stage. It seems like the guys in GD could actually be onto something here.

Tim Urban’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ Wows ‘American Idol’ Judges

tim urban american idol

Sometimes, it’s not always wisest to listen to words of wisdom; sometimes, it’s best to have faith in your own instincts. Such was the case with Texas-born Tim Urban on Tuesday night’s (April 13) “American Idol” when the singer lent his signature soulful voice to a subdued rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” during the latest round of competition.

Season-eight finalist Adam Lambert served as the guest mentor for the Elvis-themed competition, urging Urban to tap into his falsetto voice for the conclusion of the song. But Urban resisted the advice and relied instead on his familiar tenor tone — a decision that clearly paid off, as his performance resulted in an outpouring of praise from the judges.

“This may surprise you,” veteran judge Randy Jackson began, “but I actually liked it!”

Ellen DeGeneres, in typically comical fashion, likened Urban’s “American Idol” trajectory to her first time drinking tequila — she had to take one shot, then another and another still before she decided that she liked it. In Urban’s case, the singer/guitarist struggled through several weeks in the bottom three before emerging so strongly with the night’s performance.

“I can’t help falling in love with you,” DeGeneres said at the conclusion of her appraisal.

Kara DioGuardi told Urban that this was her “favorite Tim performance ever. It was authentic, real and from your heart.” She also commented on the fact that Urban remained seated through his performance, saying: “You didn’t have to do a lot — you didn’t have to move all over the stage — because it was that meaningful.”

Urban’s performance was so well-received that even outgoing judge Simon Cowell paid the singer a high compliment, telling Urban that he went from “zero to hero in two weeks.”

Robert Pattinson’s Kurt Cobain Casting And Other Classic, Untrue RPattz Rumors

robert pattinson

When somebody is impossibly good-looking, simply placing a picture of them on your magazine/ Web site/ tabloid can get a huge audience to pay attention. If the person is one of the biggest movie stars in the world, an outrageous story about them can capture countless eyeballs. And if they happen to be both, well, all the better.

Over the past 22 months or so, Robert Pattinson has rocketed from obscurity to omnipresence. He’s also dealt with a ton of ridiculous rumors. Now, hot on the heels of reports that RPattz was going to play Kurt Cobain in a feature film, we look back on the 10 dumbest (and utterly untrue) Robert Pattinson rumors:

Rob’s Nirvana?: The Sun is a British tabloid that seems to specialize in stories about how Megan Fox is going to play Catwoman. Their latest “scoop,” however, was a real doozy — Rob was in regular contact with Courtney Love and had landed the role of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in a biopic. The rumor got a bit of traction, particularly because of RPattz’s well-documented love of music, but ultimately the Sun story was dismissed by Love’s reps, leaving the tabloid to offer all apologies.

Rob Is Preggers: It would be one thing to suggest that whomever RPattz is supposed to be dating this week is pregnant. But an Australian tabloid once reported that a little Rob was on the way and — get this — he was the one who was going to give birth to it! Perhaps the editors have been watching too many bad early ’90s Arnold Schwarzenegger comedies lately, but the report was so ridiculous that even Rob himself singled it out as the craziest rumor he had ever heard about himself. We’re no doctors, but six months have passed since the “news” broke, and since Rob’s not showing yet, we’re thinking it’s safe to call this one bogus.

Rob Is a Pirate: Yo ho ho and a bottle of bull. That’s what rumors of RPattz playing Jack Sparrow’s brother in “Pirates of the Caribbean 4″ turned out to be, after reports had him battling Zac Efron and Russell Brand (!?) for the role. Somebody needs to make whoever started that rumor walk the plank.

OME! Rob Is Engaged!: Have you sent RPattz an engagement gift yet? Because he got engaged last August. And then again in September, March and apparently Tuesday (April 13) as well. If you haven’t sent a gift yet, don’t worry: We’re sure he’ll get engaged two or three more times this week.

Rob Is Dating Everyone: Twilighters would love nothing more than if Rob were actually involved with Kristen Stewart. “Lost” fans would dig it if he ended up with Emilie de Ravin. Somebody out there must want him to date Megan Fox, Nikki Reed, Camilla Belle and Erika Dutra, whoever that is. There was even a rumor out there that he was dating Katy Perry — which would be a good way at getting Russell Brand back for stealing away his “Pirates 4″ role. Through it all, Rob has denied dating any of them — so let’s give the dude some space, OK, guys?

Rob Is Deaf: After RPattz made some tongue-in-cheek comments about how loud it was whenever he went out in public, some outlets decided to twist his words into an admission that he was actually deaf. Isn’t it tragic that his fans have screamed at him so much that he’ll have to film the “Breaking Dawn” movies using sign language? MTV News can confirm that we’ve interviewed him numerous times, and either his hearing is fine or he’s the most amazing lip-reader in the world.

Rob Is Gay: Apparently, when Rob isn’t dating every actress in Hollywood, he’s busy dating every actor as well. Some outlets recently twisted an interview with one of Rob’s friends to make it sound like something far more than friendship. Not that there would be anything wrong with it, but such a rumor seems as bogus as it is sad that someone would write it.

Rob Is Bond: At the “Remember Me” premiere in London, RPattz was asked if he’d like to play James Bond. What British actor wouldn’t? Of course, when he said he would, certain sites reported it as fact. Such silliness can only leave his fans shaken and more than a bit stirred.

Rob Is an American Idol: A few months ago, the Web went wild with reports that Simon Cowell had approached Rob with a record deal. As much as some Twilighters would like it to happen, the reports turned out to be bogus (shocking!), so don’t be looking for Rob on Cowell’s hit show anytime soon.

Rob Stinks: Another RPattz rumor as suspicious as it was sad, last March an “unidentified source” was reported as saying that Rob’s co-stars on “New Moon” thought he smelled bad. We’ve interviewed Rob numerous times and sniffed nothing more than charm and charisma — so, like many other RPattz rumors, it’s the report itself that stunk.

Justin Bieber Would Love To Cast Megan Fox For Next Video

justin bieber

Justin Bieber has already released several memorable videos from his My World 2.0 album. He’s gone bowling with Drake and Ludacris in his “Baby” music video. Fallen in love in the Bahamas for “Never Let You Go.” And, he’s even thrown one killer pool party with Sean Kingston for his “Eenie Meenie” video. So what does Bieber have planned for his next big single? He’s still working out the specifics.

“I think it’s gonna be ‘Somebody to Love,’ ” Bieber told MTV News on Sunday in an exclusive sit-down just 12 hours after he appeared on “Saturday Night Live,” noting that he’s not the main person who handles video decisions. “I don’t know. I mean, the label going to decide and [manager] Scooter [Braun], but I don’t really know,” he explained. “It could be ‘U Smile’ [or 'Somebody to Love'] or anything.”

However, Bieber is pulling for “Somebody to Love.” The tune — not to be confused with the Leighton Meester, Queen or Jefferson Airplane songs of the same name — is a dance track in which he professes his love for a girl and tells her he’d do anything for her. “It’s basically about somebody to love,” he laughed. “It’s cool. It’s young. It’s nice. I think it’s like a universal record.”

Bieber said that a concept for the song’s video hasn’t been pinned down yet — nor has a co-star. And with several adorable girls already starring in his videos, when Megan Fox was suggested, he said, “That would be great. That would be awesome, but I don’t know if that would be possible. … I don’t know yet.”

Jay-Z Says He Used To Be A ‘Horrible Performer’

jay z

There aren’t many worlds Jay-Z hasn’t conquered or come out on top of: sneaker sales, multiplatinum albums, successful clothing lines and record labels, liquor deals and launching superstar protégés (see: Rihanna). But everyone is a bit insecure about something, and according to Jigga, he’s got a complex about his early live performances.

Specifically, he told the Los Angeles Times that when he first broke out in 1996, his stage skills were less than stellar.

“All my early years? Forget it. I was a horrible performer,” said Jay, who copped to realizing just how bad he was during a co-headlining tour with DMX in 1998. “DMX tore me to pieces. I remember being stunned.”

Calling on the same competitive drive to succeed that helped make him a worldwide superstar a short time later, Jay decided to focus on the unique aspects that would better connect with the audience, and he started rapping a cappella to show off his skills and running through the crowd while rapping in an effort to show up X.

“He had me really working,” he said of DMX, whose career has since taken a precipitous nosedive. “But I had to figure this out. If you want to be a headliner, you better put on a headline show.”

Over the years, that confidence has been augmented by a 10-piece backing band that helps Jay flesh out his material not just for his sold-out arena gigs, but also for crowds of tens of thousands at festivals, such as the upcoming Coachella, which he will headline next weekend as the first-ever straight-up rapper to top the bill.

The gig is a sequel of sorts to Jay’s first major non-hip-hop-related festival headlining gig, a controversial 2008 slot at Britain’s mostly rock Glastonbury Festival. When that gig was announced, former Oasis leader Noel Gallagher dissed the choice, griping, “I’m sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance.”

That dis led to a brilliant line in “Jockin’ Jay-Z” (”That bloke from Oasis said I couldn’t play guitar/ Somebody should have told him I’m a f—in’ rock star”), as well as Jay’s feeling that a line had been drawn in the sand. “That was the old guard standing in the way, saying, ‘This is rock music. This is sacred,’ ” he said. “It was one of those hurdles we had to break down.”

By winning over the crowd, Jay not only proved Gallagher wrong, but helped cement his status as an international draw, one that has led to his booking at this summer’s Bonnaroo Festival, the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan and Germany’s Rock Am Ring.

“In hip-hop, there’s not many great performers,” Jigga said. “I look outside the genre, measuring myself against others. I look at Madonna’s production and envy that. Daft Punk’s set, I’m like, what the … . And I look at the way U2 can command an audience. Bono’s a performer pretty much like I am. He’s not a dancer; he’s not jumping around. He’s having a conversation. He’s using his stillness as movement.”

Along the way, he said he’s also learned the crucial difference between one of his solo arena shows and a slot at a major festival packed with plenty of other world-class artists. “At festivals, some people are there to see you, some people are there to see the act before you, some people have no idea who you are,” he said. “So how do you take that audience of all those different people and make them focus on one point? That’s the challenge.”

Shakira Meets With Haitian Earthquake Survivors

More than three months after a massive earthquake devastated Haiti, pop singer Shakira visited the island on Sunday to make good on her pledge to build a school for the island nation’s children.

Looking for a suitable site for the school for needy children to be built by her Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation in the capital of Port-au-Prince, The Associated Press reported that Shakira touched down on a golf course that has become a makeshift camp for more than 50,000 homeless quake survivors. In addition to greeting fans and infants living at the Petionville Golf Club, Shakira met with actor Sean Penn, who has been working on disaster relief on the island since the quake struck on January 12.

Shakira, who took part in MTV’s Hope for Haiti Now telethon in January, met with 100 children at the site of her Barefoot Haiti school, an offshoot of her foundation’s efforts in Colombia, where the organization provides nutrition, education and psychological support to more than 6,000 children displaced by violence.

“We’ve come to make all the preparations to be able to start the building of a Barefoot school here in Haiti,” Shakira told Reuters about her latest effort. “We think we can employ what we’ve learned [in Colombia] here, apply it in this country which needs it so much at the moment.”

With a potential 300,000 people killed and more than a million left homeless, many of them young orphans, the Haitian earthquake is considered one of the worst natural disasters in modern history. The singer said she believes that providing education to the many displaced and orphaned Haitian children is a key part of the reconstruction efforts.

“We need to think about the future of this country and of how Haiti’s children can be useful to their societies tomorrow,” she said. “Education is one of the fundamental tools with which to develop and rebuild Haiti.”

‘Date Night’ Clashes With ‘The Titans’ At Box Office

The Box-Office Top Five

#1 “Date Night” ($27.1 million)
#2 “Clash of the Titans” ($26.9 million)
#3 “How to Train Your Dragon” ($25.4 million)
#4 “Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too” ($11 million)
#5 “The Last Song” ($10 million)

James Cameron’s “Avatar,” Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” and the recently released “Clash of the Titans” from Louis Leterrier have proven the profitability of 3-D film fare over the past several weeks and months, but sometimes, moviegoers just want to laugh. Such was the case over the weekend, as director Shawn Levy’s “Date Night,” the new romantic comedy starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey, debuted in first place over “Clash of the Titans,” the reigning champion from the previous week.

In its first weekend, “Date Night” earned $27.1 million domestically and $7.1 million in foreign markets, for a worldwide total of $34.2 million. While the results for “Date Night” aren’t quite as lucrative as Fox likely hoped for given the movie’s $55 million production budget, the weekend haul was still enough to knock “Titans” back into second place — if only by a thin margin of about $200,000. Still, as “Titans” played in 400 more locations than “Date Night” and had the added advantage of higher ticket costs for 3-D showings, the film’s inability to hang onto the #1 position proved the power of “Date Night.”

Despite the close competition between “Date Night” and “Clash of the Titans,” a third player was in the mix in the form of “How to Train Your Dragon.” The DreamWorks Animation film scored a $25.4 million weekend, a less than $2 million gap from the weekend’s winner. Since its release, “Dragon” has earned $256 million worldwide.

“Why Did I Get Married Too?” and “The Last Song” finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Tyler Perry’s latest suffered a massive 62.4 percent drop from last weekend’s second-place performance. “The Last Song,” meanwhile, has now earned $22.4 million in profits since opening on March 31.

Upcoming Releases

Comic book adaptation “Kick-Ass,” starring Chloe Moretz and Nicolas Cage, makes its hard R-rated debut next weekend. Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence’s “Death at a Funeral” offers a considerably less violent alternative for moviegoers.

Justin Bieber Says He Thought ‘Bad Thoughts’ To Get Through ‘SNL’ Skit

Justin Bieber and Tina Fey aren’t necessarily the likeliest candidates to share screen time, but that’s exactly what happened over the weekend, as the “Baby” singer was the special musical guest on the latest episode of “Saturday Night Live,” hosted by the “30 Rock” star/writer.

In an exclusive interview with MTV News on Sunday morning (April 11) after the show, Bieber said he was thrilled to participate in “SNL,” particularly alongside Fey. “It was fun, just acting [with Fey],” Bieber said. “It was cool to get to be a part of ‘SNL.’ ”

Musical guests on “Saturday Night Live” are traditionally relegated to two concert appearances over the course of the show, but Bieber happily joined in on several of the evening’s skits. In one particularly memorable segment, Bieber played a mediocre science student named Jason Deeps, but what he lacked in academic knowhow he more than made up for with his “dreamy Christmas elf” looks, causing his teacher (Fey) to fantasize about a romantic life between the two of them involving panini sandwiches and “some Spanx to make her teeny.”

“It was hilarious and it was a lot of fun to do,” Bieber laughed while recalling the skit. “I just tried to act and I thought of bad, bad thoughts [to distract myself].”

When asked if he had an easy time flirting with Fey in the skit, Bieber smiled and answered: “Yeah!”

“She’s cool,” he said of Fey, whose romantic comedy “Date Night” alongside Steve Carell premiered this weekend to strong box-office numbers. “She’s a really nice person. She’s really down to earth, not really like Hollywood. She’s cool. And she’s cute too!”

Bieber said the chance to appear on “SNL” alongside Fey and the rest of the cast was a thrilling opportunity. “It was a lot of fun,” he said. “I really had a great time doing it. Like I said, it was ‘SNL’!”
